so to update, i am having a few of these adapters made up and this will allow you to run the AXT kit if you do not want to spend the extra i will be selling these 13BT kits for...
in case anyone is interested.
cheers

Color me interested.

so i am fine tunning the turbo install today, the turbo is putting out an easy 13PSI with a max egt of 950F post turbo. i could crank the fuel up a bit more but with 35" tires and 4.11 gears the old girl pull 120 km/hr into a strong head wind with very little problem.
all in all i am very satisfied with how this turned out.
i recieved 5 adapters back from the lazer shop today so anyone that is looking to install a AXT, Safari, 13BT kit or just a 3B manifold flipped upside down the adapter to do so an a 3B 11 is now available.
cheers

I want one. Let me know how much. Also, I'd like some advice about buying a 13BT manifold. Then I'll be talking about what turbo to use. Thanks.

I seriously doubt that you could flip the 3B manifold and clear a larger turbo on a 7x. cruiser. You would have to do some serious heliarc welding or that funky 90*bend adaptor. I think on a 3b 7x it's best to have a 3b-t manifold or the axt. JMHO

OH. I did find a 12x 1.25 to -4 oil inlet fitting. I just may be back in business with the DIY project. I'm hoping I can use this fitting with a 90* -4 and it'll clear.

you are probably right about the flipped 3B amnifold, the 13BT fits real nice.
why didn't you just retap the hole for a different fitting?
cheers

the adapter is $250, the 13BT manifold from G&S is (i think) $450.

I thought about that but it's more work than a few days searching the net for a fitting from the import market. :D I'd most likely have to pull the thing apart and then I might as well rebuild it if i'm in there. I'm trying to keep things from spiraling out of control  Wayne.. Did you ever drive diesel dudes rig?

naw, Todd has been by a couple times but no truck test drive...
nice kid though, seems very down to earth...
maybe once i am back from my trip he will let me take it for a boot...

Wayne, I'll buy one of the adapters. Just let me know how to get you paid.

update

we are in Kamloops
the truck climbs the passes like it is flat ground. it passes vehicles easily. rides beautifully, very smooth and comfortable
(the top sounds just like a drum at 70 mph) the rear does sway a bit in the corners if taken above the recommended speed limits.
so far we have used 77 L of fuel which is phenominal at the speeds we have been driving and turning 35" boots on a stock setup.
once this truck recieves it's PI it really is going to rock hard. i am deffintely going to get me one...
my suggestion is get rid of the soft top and install one of my bikini tops and it will be much quieter.
the heater, even on low, kept me very warm in just a shirt and we never bothered to turn the rear unit on.
all in all this truck has turned out very well.
the trubo is set for a maz of 13 lbs and the egts, even on the steepest hills has been maxed at 950 post turbo. oil pressure is 60 psi at full throttle and the temp gauge is rock solid at 1/3...
cheers
the manifold adapter can be bought by direct deposit. contact me direct at:

and i will give you the info needed.

What's the maximum SAFE (I can't afford to blow a head gasket) boost on a 3B? AXT recommends 8lbs and Wayne is running 13lbs. Do the 3BII have a different head gasket? What's the scoop?

btw. Mine usually sits at about 8-9 maximum but I have seen it hit 13lbs on occasion. I assume thats due to the waste gate sticking closed.

I have a BJ42 with 3B that I put an AXT on as well as a BJ70 that I put a AXT. In my instructions for the kit they say between 7-10, I think it really matters depending on how the pyro is working wich is more dependant on how much you turn up the fuel. On my bj42 I run 8lbs boost and with 4.88 gears in 4 (have 5 speed) running flat at 60mph I am running 800degrees and 8lb boost. On my Bj70 I have it running at 10lbs and in 4th running flat at 60mph I am running 1000degrees and 10 lbs boost.

I think you are ok to turn it all theway up to 10 as long as you only turn up the fuel to get the power you need and keep the EGT's in line.

The AXT uses a Garret turbo and the 13BT uses the toyota CT26 I think. I am not sure wich one is bigger but I can tell you the toyota one is quieter.

On my HDJ80 with 1HD-FT it looks like it has the same turbo as 13BT and It runs up to 13lbs of boost, and hauls ass, I don't have a pyro on it yet but I will soon.

Hope this helps a little

G'day,

Michael

so the big test was applied to the BJ70 rag top with the CT26 slightly massaged turbo. we drove the coquihaulla(sp?) which is a series of very long steep hills, a true test for diesels. we climbed all the hills at at least 60 mph in 4 th gear, egts were maxed at 950 with one section where the temps got to 1000, 13 lbs of boost, temp gauge rock solid on 1/3 and the oil running at 50 psi. all this running 35" boots with 4.11 gears...
the truck pulled beautifuly, handled great, rode extemely nice and other than the need for ear plugs it has been an extemely enjoyable trip.
had supper with Sheldon, Tawnya, Greg and Petra (Greg finally got to drive his Bj74 again), Stoney and Sara. Both Greg and Sheldon drove teh BJ70 and i am hopeing they will give their own veiws on the turbo install, over all vehicle feel and performance.
so far the fuel consumption has been phenomenal but i have to figure the actual milage out. i have driven enough diesels to know really good fuel milage but i want to see for sure. maybe the next eprot i will have time to figure it out.
as for the max boost, there ae quite a few of us that are running 14 lbs pressure with no problems, you have to remember that you ae at the max boost only for breif periods, unless you are running the mountains where you are into the boost for minutes at a time..
rule of thumb, if you can not afford to fix then don't paly with the boost, suggestion, i highly doubt that you will have a problem but you take the risk into consideration and make a decision... (i am not trying to be an ass here)
cheers

arrived in Portland last night and off to visit Bob Bancroft today to check out his 1HZ install.
booting down (and i use that word lightly since there seemed to be more up than down) the I5 we averaged 70 mph with the rare boot up to 80 mph, this setup really does shine at highway speeds. the boost was sitting between 9 lbs and 13 lbs steady the whole way. the oil pressured varried between 45 and 50 lbs steady, the egts sat around 900F and the water temp was still rock solid at 1/3 the gauge. the nice feeling is that it does not feel like you are pushing the truck at all, other than the soft top it just purrs along with the traffic. no fear of having not enough power to switch lanes.
i wanted to mention this earlier but forgot, coming through BC Canada i had the oportunity to pull out and pass a few times and there was no trepidation at all, the truck had the power to do so comfortably. RHD is not hard to pass with on 2 lane roads. stay back, do not tailgate and this con be accomplished comfortably and safely.
sure is beautiful country down here.
lt the long distance test resume...
cheers

Took the beast out for a road test when Wayne and Bernie were in Chilliwack. Pulled nice and stong though the gears. Nice and clean install. Suprisingly peppy for wearing the boots it has on. The truck looks nice too! Spool up and boost felt smooth.

Would be funky to have a 3B/turbo, this 3BII/turbo and a 13BT side by side with the same ratios/boots on and do comparisons.

Wayne here, borrowing yet another computor:
thanks for the compliment Greg, it is nice to hear from independent sources whether the job looks/works good...
after all i might be a bit biased
;^)

Crushers, I have sent you the email regarding the mounting plate, still waiting for reply as to how to get you paid. Hope you're having fun.

Dieseldog,
i will be back in Calgary next week and should be able to send the info off to you then.

so the test drive has been completed, very susessfully i might add.
there was a very minor oil leak that developed somewhere along the road, the aftermarket turbo pressure line to the wastegate came lose where the only concerns that apeared.
the truck pulls fantastic, rides beautifully and is an over all pleasure to drive. the soft top is NOISY in a head wind but other than a slow steady drip on my right foot in a rain storm the top is very water tight. the stock seats are comfortable up to 8 hours of steady driving.
thanks to:
Sheldon and Tawnya for putting us up in Chilliwack
Bob Bancroft in Bend Oregon (very nice job on the 1HZ into the 60 series, congrates)
Brett and Sheila in Folsum for a couple nights (glad you cranked up the fuel eh?)
and Micheal in San Diego for the room and the tours of the nearby resurants and attractions.
i do not have the figures in front of me but i do beleive at 130 kph (75 mph) in severe head winds and up long hills we averged about 15 mpg US. during our putz down highway 46 in California (very beautiful drive) at 70 kph (45 mph) we averaged about 22 mpg US.
the truck is fantastic on fuel and tons of avaiable power. i do reommend the propane injection for the longer hills.
4th gear with 35" boots and stock gearing you can cruise comfortable at 120 kph (70 mph).
5th gear is usable up to 82 mph on the flats and 70 mph on gentle hills but anything over 4% grades and it is easier on the engine if you shift down to 4th.
cheers and thanks to those that have been following this thread.
Wayne and Berni
