Does someone have this week's G'vegas Iwanna? I saw this online and don't know if it's big enough for what we want. It might be worth a call but right now I'm too cheap to buy the paper ... Or someone can get it online... www.iwanna.com
Hydraulic pipe bender. Used very little, like new. Complete set of mandrels. Can deliver in Upstate. $150.
I willing to chip in for it, but I like the idea of renting it from the club, if the club has the money upfront to buy it. If not, maybe the people that chip in for the initial investment can have a "credit" for their first rental or so. This way the club may even make some money on it after it is paid off in the future.

i think this is a great idea...i mean, i don't think anybody would have a problem tossin 15 or 20 bucks towards the club for a weekend's use of a nice bender and this lets the members pay most of the capital, not the club.
oh, by the way, do y'all ship tool rentals to nashville?
I would be up for renting it. (With assistence.) But I cant really throw down $50 to buy it for the club. As big as our club is I bet we would make $ for the club by the time it was all said and done. We would just have to get a deposit or somethign up front and get it back when it is returned. (But those are details Marshall or another pres can deal with.)
For portability and ease of setup most anywhere, I'd recommend a JD2 or equivalent, on a reciever hitch mount (this would need to be custom fabbed of course.) This way it can be set up almost anywhere by anyone with a reciever hitch. That's how I have mine set up and it works great. I'd recommend at least 5' between the back of the vehicle and the bender, then some sort of adjustable height leg to support the bender up off of the ground. Really, unless you're building a LOT of cages, the Hydraulic bender is unnecessary. It'd be nice, but probably not worth the trouble of having to have some sort of hydraulic power source.
Well I think that if we are going to get a bender then we need to get one that is not necessarily the top of the line but definately on the upper half. There isn't any sense in buying a half ass bender for the club. We need to get something that is capable of doing most anything we would want to do with it. And to put up 50 bucks to buy one is NOTHING...if you ever buy a cage on your own you are gonna pay 50 bucks plus just for the labor of that guy building your cage. If you're not willin to pay 50 bucks to build yourself a cage so when you roll you are protected then something their just isn't right. Oh and Tim I wasn't callin your portable bender "half ass" just wanted to let ya'll know what I think we should look for for the club.
Jim and are using a borrowed jd2 style bender. I would go that route. We made a base out of flat plate and 2 large pieces of angle for the receiver. Used lagbolt receivers set in his drive - actually very portable - jst install the lags wherever its at and move or store as needed.
Whatever you do plan on buying a 180 die!!!!! The limitations of the 90 deg is very frustrating. Do it right the first time!
We decided to try to see if we can pool our club members together and buy a JD2 Model 3 tubing bender. I will fab a mount for it to be used on a reciever hitch. WHich should make it very portable.
