My 40 is 1970 with the original rear end with drums.

My transfer is newer split case behind an H55. No transfer case park brake.

Any feedback on the TSM disc setup ? Can the hand lever be used (does it apply enough force or is foot pedal needed)?

I had him set up my split transfer case with the drum brake..

Make sure that there is clearance with the torque tube. I had to cut mine loose to get the drive train in. I will weld it back in behind the fuel tank that is under the passenger seat.

Call George at Valley Hybrids/Cruiser Brothers. The TSM unit Sucks. You can not get it tight enough to hold worth a sh!t.

I removed the old brake actuator from under the dash because I found it with my right knee when I set it and jumped out with it running.
When the transmission cover is modified for the H55F I will cut a hole for the new floor mounted hand brake lever.

When I converted the FJ60 rear axle to a full floating axle I did not want two drum brakes and disc brakes so opted to stay with the drum on the transfer case. I only have 1 drum brake to worry about.

Thanks for all the good info. Have a quote from Valley Hybrids. I would have to provide the backing plate, guts and cable.

Anyone know if these are the same as came on the original smaller transfer case a 1970 FJ40 would have come with? Or are these something else / hard to find parts?

It is not the same , you need the newer one for the split case .
I love the drum parking brake on my 77 fj40 with a 79 floor lever and cable, it is a very short cable , maybe 36" or less , strong holding power and still work perfect since the resto back in 2003
I use it to winch trees out of a ditch when i do my firewood and it hold strong , the tires are just dragging on the ground if the log is too heavy

I found the cable for the floor hand brake on Ebay from Australia.
Everything but the floor brake lever was provided Valley Hybrids provided for my split case. I did not have anything from my 4 speed because I sold it all off.

The e-brake rebuild kits are still available.

There are only three special pieces. That is the output shaft, brake drum and bearing retainer on the back. The rest will work from the one piece transfer case. The cable may need to be changed because of the length depending on the transmission. Hand brake on the split transfer case was never mounted with a H55F at the factory.
