Dunlops are good tires. The OEM 31x10.50s on my last 4Runner lasted almost 70k before I had to replace them. They were fairly good in mud and snow and like to never wore out. I think Dunlops are high quality tires for a reasonable price.
 
Well, just drove 450 miles and 35"s with stock gearing SUCKS!!!!!

The crusier is now confirmed a real DOG.

Time to get ready for 4.88's. Gotta..I cannot deal with a bicycle for a vehicle.

Anyway, gas mileage was also about 30 miles less than my 33"s...going 62 MPH.

Nope. Haven't corrected it yet. I am thinking about waiting till I re gear before I take care of the speedo.

I went through a number of construction areas on I-80 and all of them have "radar gun" like mechanisms that tell you your speed. I would make sure to go a certain speed and see what my actual speed was.

At my speedo reading of "60 mph", I was in fact going 68 mph....:eek:

I adjusted accordingly.
 
In that case your fuel economy is better than you think. You are traveling over10% farther than indicated by your odometer.

I got a boost in highway fuel economy after I went from 33s to 35s -- based on GPS mileage calculations.

In town, I lost about 1 mpg, but on the highway I picked up almost 2 mpg.

It is a dog though...but I haven't gotten a speeding ticket since the upgrade :flipoff2:
 
Better late than never....and yes I know its not the same tire, However I loved mine, They were free from pop's ta boot! There was a comment about sidewall strength, I picked up a piece of metal through the side wall about 5 inches up the tire on the road.

BTW they L O V E D 75MPH right in the power for a stock geared 80 with 34" tires

Another question now that I have upgraded in tire size:

Will an increase in tire size also increase wear and tear on the transmission, driveshafts, stock gearing and birfs up front?

Since upgrading I have been very careful on acceleration making sure not too push the truck too hard and have been finding that driving without OD engaged has really helped acceleration and passing speeds.

I have really found the 35"s (or 34"s) to make the truck more stable at high speeds and has balanced out the vehicle nicely.

Any suggestions beyond upgrading the gearing?

Yes, and I will be buying another set once these die out. CDan is still on his set and is, IIRC, buying a set of 35's for his Maul Cruiser.

They have worn in real well and all things considered are not very loud.

And you cannot beat the price....

Negative: not very good in deep snow.

I have 5 315/75/16 Mud Rovers in my office right now. They are going on the Maul Cruiser in the next couple days. I now have these tires on three different vehicles and in three different sizes. I really like them.

that is the answer i was looking for. I have been trying to choose between the mud rovers and nitto terra grapplers. Both are about the same price. After driving on goodyear mtrs it is hard to downscale to a nitto at.
 
is a nitto tg very "good in deep snow"?

i wish i could tell ya', but with this global warming crap we didn't even get 1 inch of snow last winter for me to try them in :confused:
 
I have to travel a couple hours for snow in Tahoe. Got a whopping two days of snow driving this year. My tires need to be capable in snow 2 days a year if it actually snows on those days?

I just got some Dulop Radial Mud Rovers indirectly as a matched set of retreads in the 315 size, for $95 each, from Treadwright. Same tread pattern as the original Dunlops. I will report on those once the wheelin season starts here in CO. They are going on a second set of factory wheels.
 
my MTRs suck in deep snow.
