Hard to say while running, definitely several drips while stopped. Also has a large buildup of caked oil all over the front engine area and underside of the truck is coated in a light covering of oil as well. Redokulous amount of oil covering the lower cross member under the radiator area.

I was assuming blow-by past the rings, but could this just be valves? There is also obviously multiple seal issues.

@Cass007 See the above post / Reply to the OP. The same thing applies to yours based on your description.

You also need to do the typical engine cleaning and re-sealing list. I would do all this FIRST.

Valve Cover Seal
Spark Plug Tube Seals
Throttle Body Gasket
Distributor O-Ring
Oil Pump Seal
Front Main Seal
Power Steering hoses

These are relatively easy with the exception of the Front Main Seal and Oil Pump seal that should be done together, as they require a torque wrench to go to 306 LB-FT on the harmonic balancer.

I would look elsewhere then. With a bit of research you can find the part numbers you need and order online from Olathe Toyota who will ship them out to you. They give at least a 25% discount off MSRP on just about everything. I've even found my local dealer to be quite helpful if I go in with part numbers or look through the schematic with them. The downside to that is they may not be able to recite PNs off the top of their head, but, you don't have to deal with the ego either. There are trade offs.

I think last time I looked a head gasket was under a $100 for OEM and that's fairly cheap for the quality you are going to get. @Red Merle has a good point in getting the OEM valve grind kit. When I did my 94 I went that route plus a few extra seals for the bottom end.

Since Olathe Toyota doesn't have a website, I use Toyota Parts | Toyota Online Parts | Genuine Toyota parts | Toyota Parts Online and I live in Olathe. This way, it's delivered to my door and I don't pay sales tax. Typically, freight offsets sales tax, depending on how much and what you are buying.

So my situation looks sort of like Cass007's.

I can put up with going through 1 Qt. of oil every 1000 miles or so, but my exhaust smells awful -- and not just at start up. Does this make it seem more likely that I have ring issues as well? Or could this be the catalytic converter not doing its job? This was replaced a number of years ago and I have the catalytic converter inefficiency code all the time.

My HG blew at 175,000 miles. Rebuilt the head with valve job, new seats, etc.

Then within two weeks, spun a bearing. After considering all the options -- another used engine, rebuilding the engine I had, buying rebuilt engine from NAPA or similar, finally decided on purchasing a new Toyota short block, using my rebuilt head, already had all the normal baseline PM items: new water pump, radiator, thermostat, and putting it all together.

Started right up, runs great, just putting a few "while you're in there" items together, like dual battery set up, 150 A alternator, upgraded cables, new catalytic converters and exhaust.

Looking forward to at least, hopefully, 150,000 relatively trouble free miles before I do the HG again, then another 100,000 miles after that. If I live that long!

Was not the cheapest way to go, but believe it was the least expensive way to have a very reliable vehicle.

Deciding about rebuilding or selling my old engine, because you can never have too many spare parts laying around, eh?
