is it possible that a truck that was tracking straight would suddenly pull to one side (RHS) after rotating the tires (in the OEM pattern)?
If so, what does that mean about the tire or steering geometry or whatever?
And yes, I could rotate them again, but thought I'd ask first so I know from now on...
E
(added: this is an all stock suspension with good LTX tires in OEM size, minor variations in wear across the 4 tires (spare not in rotation))

add: is this as simple as just an individual tire pulling on one side, as suggested in this other steering thread for a lifted truck? I didn't think it would have such a strong effect. This is very noticeable here, I have to hold the steering wheel.

OK, decided to erase this thread cuz it was too close to another one going one now, but can't figure out how to do it.
So, no need to reply unless you think you have some great info...
I'll try and delete this thread still...
sorry about redundancy

Eric......:D

I hereby nominate you as Chairman of the Department of Redundancy Department......:D

Anyway, sounds like a tire pull to me.

Do I have a second?........:flipoff2:

just you wait... if I can figure this "delete post" thing out, I'll delete it and erase it so you'll have one less post!
"Redundancy..." Me? sheeesh....

Eric - I was going to add that you don't get extra posting bonus points for starting a new thread but since you offered to delete it, I won't bother.

All I can suggest is rotate em back (or move front to rear & vice versa) and try it out. I can't remember the pattern but doesn't the spare move to the front? If so then that spare might have been tucked up there for a reason.

well, you did add it, didn't you... that's not redundant, that's self-contradicting :D

no the spare is brand new, I've not included it in the rotation (yet)

Run it for a few miles and see if it corrects its self. Is it one of a set of 5 purchased by you? If so, you may be able to visit with the dealer about corrective action if the condition exists........

Riley,

Is that a second on my motion? ................:D

Dan, it's a second on both counts.

Eric, if the spare didn't get rotated in then it wasn't the OEM rotation pattern was it?

no, they are from the PO

Eh! I volunteered to delete it without any prompting but I can't delete any of own posts... Gumby must have realized they are too valuable... :D

OK,

We have a motion and a second............

Opposed?

Well then,

Please ammend your sig line to include your new appointment......;)

Eight minutes before the motion carried. Damn Dan your being nice. ;p

well, finally swapped DS and PS front tires/wheels.
Amazingly enough, it's no longer pulling to the side. So, it was indeed the tire!
What the heck could possibly cause a tire to do this...?
E

The tire doesn't like running backwards? :flipoff2:

Is the tread wear even all the way across?

check the tire pressure in the morning before the sun heats the tire

pressure was OK, I watch that. Good idea though.

Maybe it's an Australian tire and it thought it was driving on the wrong side?

Seriously, though, that's odd. One hint is that it seems to be the oldest tire on the rig that was on the PS when it was pulling to the PS, and maybe most worn or harder? Could it be a diameter or hardness issue? But there was no major difference in diam, maybe 2/32nds or so.

But then, why isn't it pulling to the left now? Must have something to do with the suspension or steering geometry...

E

I've been told that some tires will get a set to them from the crown in the road. Then when you flop it on the otherside of the vehicle you can get problems. How long between tire rotations? I personally don't have these types of issues do to the total lack of rotating my tires :D
