I'm trying to remove the IAC valve to clean and do the o-ring mod to it.

However, the two screws that hold it in are giving me a lot of trouble.

I'm using the correct sized screwdriver, fits snug in the head.

I sprayed PB on the end of the bottom screw. (end of screw protrudes through to other side of mount flange).

I cannot get the screws to come loose, I've used as much force as I can without boogering up the heads (one is started to bugger a little).

Anyone got an suggestions? If this was a part that wasn't so important and could be easily drilled/tapped I wouldn't sweat it, but the IAC valve and throttle body are pretty important.

Thanks.

some times if you tap the screwdriver with a hammer(small one, easy taps) this will loosen the screws. then they become easier to back out. It is better to clean the throttle to fix the high idle stuff then to do this mod. So if you have not cleaned you TB, do this first. there are some good write ups by memeber on this site. later robbie

Ok I will clean the TB first.

The FSM specifies "carb cleaner" do I need to find FI cleaner because the carb cleaner is too harsh or not?

Do I need a new TB gasket to do the job? (none of the dealers in town have one in stock).

The throttle body gasket is a steel shim type and can likely be re-used as long as you are careful with it.

I suggest selecting a "throttle body cleaner" as opposed to carb spray if you can find it. Carb spray is a bit stronger and may possibly attack some of the bits inside the throttle body.

OK, thanks.

Yer welcome..........

Oh, FWIW, I stock that gasket ;)

Oh i know, I was trying to get the job done yesterday and wanted to have a gasket on hand.

Besides, I enjoy driving up to the dealerships in my 40. Kinda takes the wind out of the salesmans sails. :D

The top one I used my hand impact on to break it free...go easy. The bottom one I used a small chisel and small hammer tapping every so cautiously from the side. Once it moved maybe 1/8th of a turn I was able to easily remove it with the long reach philips.

Thanks.

Pull the TB off and get needle nose vice grip plyers on that bottom screw. I had to that that exact same thing.

I use the needle nose vice grips on all the Toyota screws.
I don't think they would come free with out it.

Well, I finally got the top free with PB and brute force.

The bottom one is still stuck, but no more stripped.

I tried tapping with a hammer while turning, (turned hard enough the shaft of the screwdriver was torquing).

I will just wait until I can remove the TB and get pliers on it like yall suggested.

A #2.5 screwdriver would be perfect for the bottom screw now that it is a little boogered. Is there such a thing?

Thanks for the suggestions.

One last point. I replaced both of those screws for m5 hex screws, but what do I know?
