Alcoa wheels

Soenke, would Ii be able to get some information on the wheels? If you have an Alcoa part number and a source I would appreciate it. I have been looking for that type of wheel for sometime and have hit road blocks. Thanks, Gary

I have some older (1994) era 16X7'sith a 0 backspace on my FJ40, the Alcoa PN is 167101. I have been searching, probably for the last year or so for exact replacements and have come up with nothing. I have contacted ALCOA and they no longer produce that size. So if you have 16X8's that may be my only option at this point.
 
This is the best thread I have read here on MUD since finding this forum 2 (or so) years ago! Nice work on that rig. Your hard work has given a goal that will never be attainable in my garage. Stunning!

There have been some body construction technique threads over at Expedition Portal.

Effectively the frame of his is rounded corner AL angle irons welded at the corners with panels glued into them to make the sides. The panels are pre-made composite panels.

This is a quick detail for the box corner I designed showing both the lifting top and the base in a 3D cross section. Lifting top has the curved corner for the outside and a angle iron for the inside. The base has both inside and out as angle irons. The red pieces are delrin plastic glides, and likely need to be thinner to prevent binding. The panels are 1" thick AL/foam/AL composite panels. Their skins will be on the order of .032" thick. The outside curved corner can be formed from a 1/8" thick sheet AL plate. No need for a custom extrusion of that shape. The panels will be glued to the outside corner pieces first. Then the inside corner angle irons will be glued in place to finish off the corner. The inside angle irons are not welded to the frame. They are only glued in place.

For lifting the top I was thinking of savaging the coil lift springs from a popup RV trailer and using a small hydraulic cylinder to move them. Basically the lift springs are a tightly packed spring that is run in a conduit tube. When one end is pushed on the other end moves. The conduits can be bent. The conduit tubes routs the spring from the actuation area to a corner. One is used at each corner.
 
as Bogo says

at the top the panels are adapted into the AL-frame from the inside, the middle-part-walls from the outside and into the bottom-part again from the inside. Hopefuly the welded frame will help the construktions to become more stable then it would be by just glueing f/g panels together...

i am mostly interested in the solid wall lift and drop rear entrance assembly. i have been shopping here and nothing even comes close to what you have there...

WOW this cruiser is :censor: so cool.And I'am so glade i found this build.I have been looking at doing this to my HJ47. Soenke if you dont mind I have a few questions.
1- Have you got any pitcures of the cab mounts that you made and did you use the factory mounting points on the cab and weld the new mounts to the chassis?.
2- what is the steering made up from between the 80 and 45 all is it all 80 series?.
Keeping in mind that mine will be Right hand drive.
Cab is a 8-84 HJ47 and chassis and drive line will be a 1997 HZJ80.

we made a frame to match the 45 and 80 mounts, works as a body lift too.

Steering is all 80.
But I know of other builds wich used the original steering column and a mixture of 45 and 60 parts:
