I’m looking for a new hanging bag to put on my rear spare tire - the spare tire is on a rear-bumper swing-out.

I have long had a Trasharoo purchased from Slee that is due for replacement.

I was going to get an exact replacement but then thought to ask if anybody has found a better one.

So… have any of you found a tire-mounted trash bag that you prefer?
I see several alternative options on Amazon.

I have liked the Trasharoo but not loved it.
It will too often slide down and kind of hang too low if there is weight in it.

And a few months ago one of the clips (“clasps?”) fell off so it was hanging by only one of the shoulder straps. I used a bolt on the back of the tire carrier to jury-rig and reattach that side and it seems to work better. So I wonder if there are bags with better attachment methods.

I'm on my third trasharoo—I view them as a wear item. They fade, latches get brittle, dirty, dusty, and smelly. There are definitely high-end bags out there but they would all suffer the same fate as a cheap trasharoo. This for me isn't a buy forever item.

Agreed. I too look at them as somewhat disposable. Especially since they are only $45.

I was about to buy a new one and before I did I thought to poll you guys just in case there was something better due to the negatives I mentioned.

Ps. And vehemently agree on the “smelly.” Something was stinking up my garage and I was surpirised to find that it was my Trasharoo.

I’ve come to disdain the style of bag with the clipping X straps. They always loose themselves, especially under load and when being bounced around, and eventually slide off on their way to wearing out.

My next will be one of these:

I can’t attest to its quality or durability personally, but I’ve seen one on the back of a neighbors Jeep for two years running (on full time through Oregon summer and winter) and it seems be holding up well.

That’s the exact one I was eyeing on Amazon!

I was just given pause by that material - like maybe it would rip easily. Or wasn’t as strong.
Also the tire in those photos has a cover on it. So would that make a difference?

Maybe for $29 I should just take the plunge and test it.

I'm actually on my 3rd as well; however, you can reach out to them for a replacement (just pay processing/shipping). They don't cover fading, but tears are covered..

I like the idea of that one, as I have a 35" spare. I'd be skeptical of how well the vinyl holds up over sun exposure, but for the price it might be worth a shot.

This is good to know and a plus for the Trasharoo. Does it cover stink?

Though it won’t change how it annoyingly attaches to the tire.
(Though I do accept and admit that might be partly user error and I need something more idiot proof.)

One more option:

Stout and American made but pricey. They don't see, to fade and they can be cleaned pretty easily.

If you can stomach the price difference between it and the Trasharoo this one is phenomenal, made in Canada with quality materials. the exchange rate is pretty favorable at the moment too. It has Lots of additional storage so it can be used to hold recovery and camping gear . So far mine is holding up well. No signs of wear.

I have an older version of the NBX bag and it has done very well, great bag for sure.

Does the NXB bag have a better way of attaching to the tire than the backpack-like shoulder straps that the Trasharoo has?
Or something to prevent it from sliding down so it’s hanging off of the lower part of the tire?

It's got two straps that you criss cross on the tire and then adjustable straps with strong hooks that keep the bag in place. I have really only had my bag slip slightly one time and I had the bag way to full.

Nice. That does seem much improved over the Trasharoo. Of course it comes with a price.

Maybe I’ll take a flier on the $29 Amazon bag and if it doesn’t suffice I’ll try out this one.

Edit: I’m obviously begging for the “buy once, cry once” that is so often used in this forum.

Ive been happy with this Alltop, build quality is far better than trasharoo.
I bought one of those as well. Works well and has held up fine for me, though I remove it from the truck when I'm not on a trip, so it only sees maybe 4-6 weeks of use per year. It was a few bucks cheaper than the Trasharoo, though I would've bought the name brand if it had been similarly priced.

I purchased the name brand before and returned it immediately. Didn't like anything about it

Not saying the Trasharoo is better, just that it would've been my default purchase if the price and availability were the same at the time.

The Alltop has been fine. The bottom inside is vinyl or something similar and has some cracking/peeling Functionally it's still working fine, but I've only had it a but over a year and I would've expected it to hold up better given most of the time it's just hanging in my garage.
