why is the pto mounted on the transmision face rear wards

I will try to help you out from what I have seen.

My BJ40 has a H41 4 speed transmission with a cover where the PTO mounts. My rig is a 1975 model year. Iwas courious about the same thing a while back and did some research myself. What I found is that at that time the mentioned H41 was also used on the Dyna truck (as well as the B engine) and only engines & trannies from Dyna trucks had the PTO installed, for the LC has its design on the transfer case. This is all I can say. I am also interested on finding this out, for I can easily get those PTOs around here.
