Well,
After all considerations of the various ways to R/R the trans/transfer case, I decided to have it done...
I had the car front end on (2) stands, was ready to start, had a pretty nice floor jack, with a lowered 4" of height standing by, when it started raining here in Northern California... The forecast was for more rain...
I was also by myself and being just a couple days before Christmas, I decided to have it done.
Called Georg at Valley Hybrid in Stockton, he had open time between Christmas and New Year. Had the car on a flatbed the next day, and back in my driveway the day before New Year. During the re-building of the transfer case, he also found some damage as a result from a previous, slightly incorrect rebuild, which he took care of. If I had been the one doing the rebuild, I may have missed that... and not having the related parts to replace, it would have prolonged my work.
So, I think, I made the right call at the time and I am glad its behind me...
Sometimes, you have to let someone else do a job, that you may be borderline equipped for.
Also gave me time to work on the misc. other issues I have to take care of. Still working on re-freshing the interior. Still looking for a crack free brown dash and a front driver seat cover. (Or a complete brown interior, but may have to go with an after market interior from SOR or others).
Car runs great, getting ready to re-torque the head and adjust the valve lash (in that order...) So above discussions about adjusting valves came in handy.
Thanks everyone, who helped me during this and my other posts about my engine rebuild. Learned a lot in a short time about these Land Cruisers...
