A local aftermarket autoparts store (like Pep Boys) should carry a plastic pump that screws onto a standard plastic gallon jug of gear oil. That will allow you to pump the gear oil from the gallon jug up and into the fill port on the transmission or transfer case.

$10 at Harbor Fright :D But any Auto parts place should have it.

That's exactly what I was looking at earlier. Thanks.

Good picture. Adding the plug sizes will complete the picture.
The transfer fill plug is 17mm.

Very cool - it was a fun race.

So I'm about to drop it, but I'd like to get an opinion on where to place the jack. I have no idea how heavy it is, but I don't want to unbolt it and have it fall off the jack stand.

All of the options seem like it wont sit well on the jack because the transfer case is at a different level than the tranny.

Option 2:

Option 3:????

Also, should I take out all "A" bolts so the support member is taken off? I took out the "B" bolts and screwed them in the bottom of the nut so I wouldn't lose them.

The manual says to take out the 4 bolts in the lower left diagram but it doesn't seem necessary. Also, not sure if I need to take the exhaust pipe off.

Sir, what and where'd you get the manual that you are using? I am taking back an '89 HJ60 from Japan and am looking for the best Manual (in english) that I can. Thank you!

Very Newbie here - So I opened the Transfer case fill plug, I have a slight leak so I was just looking to top it off. Well to my surprise about a half quart came out of the fill plug. Is this normal? How would I refill above this plug? This is a new build. Thanks in advance guys, just learning here.

Not normal, but not uncommon. The seal between Trans and T'case goes bad and gear oil gets pumped into the case.

Remedy is to replace seal (disassemble T'case) or for a short-term fix you can use a bypass hose.

@shipmag sells a nice one, if he still has them.

The extra oil came from your transmission. Now your transmission oil level is low.
The bypass hose Spike mentioned above works when the oil gets pumped up hill into the transmission (from the transfer case) but it won't work in your situation because the transfer case which is lower than the transmission is filling up.

So just keep an eye on it. Every few thousand miles check the oil levels in both cases and adjust accordingly.
The only way to stop the oil migration (for a while) is to replace the input shaft seal in the transfer case — taking it apart.

Thank you for taking the time to answer. So for the transmission levels, just open the fill and top off? Same oil as I was planning on using in the TC? Lucas SAE 80W-90 in the Tranny?

They use the same oil. confirm your oil meets GL4 or GL5 specifications.

I use a little hand pump to transfer the oil into the case. I keep filling until it starts to trickle out, then screw in the fill plug.

Does the tranny need GL4? GL5 is usually for the diffs and TC since it may have higher sulphur which eats the brass synchros in the transmission. At least that's the way it is with 4runners. You get sticky shifting when they get eaten up.

For 3rd gen 4runners, Redline MT90 is the way to go for the manual transmission.

Should there be a gasket or o ring on the transmission fill plug? When I pulled it there was none.

My orings are sandwhiched between to pressed washers. If you use and oring without them youll probably tear the oring. So in this case a crush washer would be better without having the pressed washers. You can reuse the crush washer a couple times if lucky best if you replace them every time though and the cost isnt that much
