I may have found my gremlin.

The handle to take the TC from H2 to H4 is "loose" it rattles around while driving..
(I push it forward to stop the noise... it wont stay like that.) Can I adjust the bolt at the back of the shifter?(see image)& tighten it to hold it forward...

Top image is "back" (loose & makes rattle noise)
Bottom image is pushed all the way forward.

it seems to be the middle linkage... slack...maybe because of the wrong sized washers around that connection?

Year? Model? Yes, it matters.

The pre-1980 stuff is much noiser than the 81 and newer, and the pre 4/75 is REALLY noisy. If you have pre-80 stuff, plan on disassembling it and figuring how to shim up some of the slack yourself. Methods vary. Tightening a nut or adding a washer is NOT gonna do the trick by itself.

FWIW, tho I haven't seen one, I wouldn't be surprised if a thread search turned up some more info on other members 'fixes' for this problem.

Full disassembly seems to be the ticket, eh... okay.
I have searched, but not found a related thread. Anyone done this before and have pointers?

Hi
I had the same with my BJ40-1980
I dismateled the hole thing, made bigger bores
in the linkage parts , put new bushing in it .
This will eliminate the rattle for 100%

Cees- What did you use for the "bushing"?

Mine's a Feb. 1974 and the buzzing noise was driving me nuts. Unscrewed the shifter knob about three turns and it stopped. I have no idea why but it worked.
