Just put a used 4 spd tranny in my friend's 60. It was supposed to have been "checked" so my dumb ass didn't think to look at it too closely before installing. Anyway, I put the shifter in and the thing will not come out of nuetral. I can feel where the gears should be but it just won't go into any. Also, I put the t case back on with it in 2wd. Everything spun great while on the bench. Now, after being bolted to the back of the engine, the output shaft acts like the tranny is in gear (it won't spin more than a couple degrees) yet when turning the engine over the drive shaft does not spin. Anyone have any ideas?

You might need to take the cover off and look inside. Sometimes during shipping things might get jarred and stuck. While you have it apart you can shift the gears manually to start trying to diagnose the problem. Most likely as sychro or something jammed.

You didn't put she shifter nose back in the right slot. Pull it back out and take a peek inside the shift tower. You should see 3 slots. 1 of the 3 will not line up with the other two and this is the slot the nose goes in to.

The other way is to pry the slots back in line so all three line up in a row (Neutral position). That way there is only 1 possible way to put the nose in.

The tranny is in gear, not in N. You need to figure out what gear it is in and then install the shift lever nose in the appropriate slot.

Well that would be a lot simpler fix, I skipped over that part. My lazy butt just read what I wanted to read. Sorry bout that.

The linkage on the far passenger's side had to be moved back. Thanks for the info!
