From The Sheila:

Emma has spoken:

And She has said that anyone associated with the HDC who does not want to pick up rubbish (ie: other sheilas) can hang out at our house with her and Liam and await the return of the trash-hauling half of the HDC (ie: the blokes). Then, when all return to our house, we can hold the meeting, eat and perhaps catch a bit of the game on telly.

Thoughts?

Josh

I have a vague recollection that Monday is a holiday as well, though not sure if it is applicable to the dump.

Holiday is this Monday, the 12th. Actually, the holiday is Sunday the 11th, but most places will recognize Monday as the holiday.

Sheilas?
Blokes?
Telly?

Sounds like Oz-speak. Love it. Keep them coming.

In keeping with teh Aussie theme, here are a few snaps of Lexie over there in a similar environment:

The first is in Brakina George at about 80' elevation with no people anywhere for miles and miles, the second is Lexie on the border of South Australia and the Northern Territory at about 50' below sea level.

I am a maybe for that day. I could potentially drag along my "redneck trailer" if I can make it. It's not that big, it's the tail end of an old Ford Courier, but it would hold some junk. Any idea what time you're talking about getting started? I'm still not clear where Diablo Canyon is - close to Los Alamos, maybe?

It's actually across the river from Los Alamos. "Buckman Crossing" used to be the access to Los Alamos before there was a Los Alamos, and before there was a bridge at Otowi. Buckman Road is off the north edge of Caja Del Rio, between there and the mesa to the north. North of that little mesa is Otowi. It's basically a road down a wash. The access is from Santa Fe.

Also, we're a definite maybe. Since Wendy always wants to walk the trail and pick up trash, she'll be going with us blokes...

I am a maybe. I will be in the 80.

How much trash are we talking about here? There are some blokes from the FSB forum that would be interested in helping out and some JrROTC members at Del Norte High that could use some community service points.

I would have to see what the family's plans are for Thanksgiving before I say I can make it. Sometimes we have it on Sunday berfore, so the other 300 hundred (lost count so I could be wrong) or so can make it to their in-laws or where ever on Thursday.

I did not get to explore as much as I would have liked as Liam started getting a bit tired. However, I saw a large amount of food wrappers, beer cans, bottles, jugs, plastic bags, paint pails, etc.

One of the partners in my firm said he was out there a month ago and that he saw a number of appliances and a burned out car up Diablo a mile or so.

Obvioulsy the more we have the better, but we would be limited by the number of cars and how much each car can carry (my 40 for instance can only really carry two adults with the car seat, and there is not a lot of room for rubbish).

We could certainly drop two or three kids off at each area with a half dozen bags and then swing back by with a pickup to load up the trash/kids (in no particular order of inportance, mind).

David is loking into whether the FS can provide a 40' skip (dumpster) into which we can offload the trash.

Josh

Thanks for pinging David, hopefully he can come through for us with the dumpster - that'd make the whole process more productive. Filling up a dumpster is an instant gratification type of thing for me, personally!

If I can make it I'll bring my 'redneck' trailer too. It used to be a Chevy LUV Mikado. I'm assuming this is not hard wheeling based on the fact that people of questionable character dumping their appliances generally are not in highly capable off-road machines.

looks like I could be good for the 18th! I can just drive the Ford F350. a long bed with lots of room and possibly the flat bed. I should have it cleared off tomorrow.

No, mostly easy and fun stuff. You can find good wheeling but we can always drag the hard to reach stuff to you redneck-style.

We're a maybe. I've got an older Ford Ranger 4X4 I could bring if needed.

Hello lads,

Still trying to sort out what we will do with the trash once we collect it, but in the meantime Emma would like to know how many folks will turn up at the house afterwards for the meeting. She plans to make a couple curries, so needs to have an idea how large to make them.

Cheers,

Josh

Count me OUT. I've got too many things to get done to prepare for the feast on Thursday.
