Anyone used a boom pole for pulling and installing an engine? Would a boom pole rated at 1,000 lbs work for on a 1FZFE+transmission and t-case? I think the whole package is under 1000 lbs but I know there's more to the equation than weight considerations.

I need to swap engines in the 80 series and don't have a good spot to use a normal engine hoist which is why I'm looking at using a boom pole off the back of a tractor.

I'm assuming you mean 3 points.

The ones I've seen had fairly long diagonal braces. Are you going to remove the radiator and/or will you be able to clear the front while still having enough reach farther in?
And will you have precise enough control over the motions to not bang things up?

Hood will come off, radiator, etc will come out to give full clearance.

Having spent half my youth on tractors, I'm not sure you would have enough control but maybe. Most 3 point hitches that I have operated do not have the control that a forklift has, for example, and certainly not what a manual hydraulic pump has. Oddly enough, you probably have more control going down than up so if everything was clear then you could probably get it done. They can be really jerky though under load.

I'll rephrase the question, is the lifting of a 1FZ+transmission and t-case, that I think is under 1,000 lbs, within the working limits of a 1,000 lb rated boom pole? If so, I have other ideas on how to ease an engine out an into the engine bay because I know the lift/lower control with the tractor will be too crude. Maybe good enough for removal but not installation.

Most of the smaller, round tube 3-point booms are rated at 1k only at the back loop (closest to tractor) and 500 at end loop. If yours is 1k at end - go for it but you might need some extra weight on front of tractor with that much weight extended off the back. I have a 2k/1k boom if you need.

As long as you say "hold my beer" or "roll tide" before you begin you'll be fine.
