This really isn’t a complaint but I find it sort of strange. I’ve been running my aftermarket wheels and tires for a few weeks now and the TPMS warning light hasn’t come on yet. I fullly expected this to be an issue and was prepared to bypass it but it hasn’t registered a fault.
The obvious is that my aftermarket wheels have TPMS in them but I can assure that they don’t. They were on my 07 FJC and that year didn’t have TPMS. I personally mounted this wheel/ combo so I know they only have a standard valve in them.

Anyone else have this happen. I’ve read several threads that have had the opposite happen. Ie: different wheels tripped TPMS and had to bypass it.
I haven’t read any with my results.

Truck is a 07, 1-owner, I have all of the Lexus service history and it was a garage queen. So I doubt the PO had this disabled. Can’t see it being a fuse because from everything that I read, the bypass is more complicated than just removing a fuse.

Just curious.

Thanks!

Are your original wheels/tires stored where you park? If you only drive short distances, it could be re-syncing to your old wheels every time you go back home.

The OEM wheels are currently ~50’ from where the truck is parked for the night. My son has been taking it to school so it’s gone all day, then to practices and back home in the evening. I thought that it would kick the light throughout the day during his travels. To school- stop. Then to practice-stop, then do what kids do and run around for awhile...
Somehwere during the starts, the system would run the checks and throw the warning light on but it hasn’t.

Yeah, in that case I would expect it to have started blinking. I left my spare at my buddy's place and I was probably ~50 miles away (at least) before it finally realized it was gone, but that's not a whole lot of time.

Verified that the light does come on initially when the ignition is turned on.
Scratch that off of the list.

Mystery solved! After 25 days of driving around with no TPMS sensors, the TPMS has decided to work...
Guess I’ll get to hacking.

I’m just glad there isn’t a loud alarm. I think it was our RX350 that had an annoying alarm when the sensor went off.

Good call to cover it up. I may dig under the glove box to see if I can get to the harness to bypass it. If it’s too much of a pain, I’ll cover it up.

It's not that bad, and there are a few bolts nearby you can use to ground the blue wire.

I didn't mind the solid light that much, but then it started flashing and that drove me nuts.

Just an update on this thread. @JLee gets the Friday prize or whatever else is good on Fridays...
Haven't had time to bypass the circuit yet and have had time to see the pattern. The TPMS light will not come on for local trips at all. Several starts and stops at different times throughout the day and I can drive for what I'm now guessing is an infinite amount without a light coming on. Take it out on an extended trip and just about 30 mins into the journey the light flashes and comes on. Took the rig out of town the other weekend and the light came on Friday, stayed on all weekend and for the return trip home. Got up the next morning and the light was off. Tires are more than 50' away from the truck but it is still close enough to reset the system. Drive around a few more days with no lights and as soon as we took it on another trip, the lights came on in just about the same location as before. I've been able to replicate this several times now.

Still going to bypass but it is disappointing find. If someone were actually depending on these sensors to warn them, they may find themselves in trouble. I'm picky about what pressure I run so it's not an issue but thought some may want to know if still running a stock setup.

The reaction time for a missing sensor is much slower than for a low tire. If I air down for off-road use, the light comes on immediately.
