I like the concept, but dismounting tires to swap dead batteries is no bueno

After less than 2 years, its a bit annoying to dismount a tire to replace a battery. But it wouldn't be happening now if id thought ahead enough to put new batteries in the sensors before i installed them. I think the pill would be easier to swallow after 3-4 years of service.

I have to admit that after a blow out on my trailer last year that something like these could be a good idea. I could not tell that I had a blow out and I was traveling at 72mph.
If my wife hadn’t needed to go to the bathroom it would have been much worse.
When We stopped I did my usual walk around checking and found this View attachment 3828114again I had no clue and couldn’t feel anything amiss in the cab of the tow rig.
Sensors with an alarm to notify me I had lost all pressure in that tire would have been very helpful.
I check my tires regularly so letting me know it a little low is more of a gimmick to me.
Knowing that I just experienced a blow out is indispensable information Especially on out-of-state trips where I put on 400 to 600 miles at a time.

This project was inspired by a blow out on the freeway on the way to the airport.
It was on a Honda Civic I used as a commuter car a while back. Front tire blow out, so i had to put a spare on the back and put the back tire on the front.

I'm not a fan of being stuck and really not a fan of changing tires on the side of the road. So the pressure and temp display being on with alarms all the time gives me one less thing to worry about. Especially since the 100 is my daily driver now.

Personally, not sure I would dismount a $400 tire to swap a $2 battery.
Every time a tire is dismounted/ mounted there's a small risk of damage to tire or wheel.

i certainly dont look forward to tire replacement time when it comes around. Surprise tire replacement is even worse on these since you really ought to do all four at the same time... i will freely admit that i have car expense cookie jar for just that kind of thing. A lesson I learned the hard way years ago.

There is no need to dismount and re-balance a tire to change the battery. I've changed TPMS batteries and sensors (although not these particular ones) by popping the bead near the sensor. You can then press down (and hold down) on the sidewall enough to reach/dismount the sensor. Then just re inflate the tire. The balance of the tire won't change at all if the orientation of the tire relative to the rim doesn't change (which it won't).

So couldn't this be how to install a TPMS as well?

I don’t think it’s as easy as it sounds.
In fact I think it will be a struggle if possible at all to just change the batteries.
