Wheel weights

ok..they BARELY FIT on there....thank god.

jynx...if you could post a link to the used oem ones i would greatly appreciate it....

here is another teaser.
still got to get new valve stems, stick on weights, lugs, a couple missing center caps and oh yeah.....tires.

Make sure to tell the tire shop install the weights on the inside only to give it a clean look on the outside.i will try to post some pics. tommorow.:D

yeah, i thought of that, but i think i am going to go with the stick on wheel weights. that way i can completely eliminate the possibility that the new finish will be scratched up.

but this is going to have to wait a week or two. i am trying to finish up some other wiring projects i started...

so between running around getting stuff done,
i got new valve stems and I found a part number for BLACK oem wheel nuts
90942‑01048
it supposedly is the same number for DLX and SR5 trucks, but i cant find a pic of it anywhere to make sure its the same type with the flat washer above.

since i dont have the original wheels on my truck, can someone confirm that the old dlx plain steel wheels used the same flat washer type lug nuts as the alloy sr5 wheels?
thanks
Bryan

My '94 dlx mini-truck came with steel wheels. They have a lug nut with a cone type seat that centers the wheel.

I am almost positive that only aluminum wheels came with the shouldered lug nuts and steels came with conical.

i agree with you fellas, steel wheels had the acorn style nuts. but that part number applies to dlx and sr5 trucks....so could a dlx have aluminum wheels from factory??

see i dont want to spend 120 bucks on nice new oem nuts to get a bunch of acorn nuts i cant use on my new aluminum rims.....

A simple Google search on that part number says it is an acorn nut.

really? i couldnt find anything with a description of it. i mean all of the official toyota parts warehouses online dont have any descriptions or anything..just says wheel nut.

and when i google image that number, both the conical nut and the washer style pop up....so idk

edit..finally found a pic with the part number. Bogo is right.
http://cn.oemol.com/oem/oem_detail_show.asp?id=72387&oem=9094201048&lan=en

well, i dont know the part number to get or how to get it now...i mean i could get one of those ebay sets, but i would rather the oem ones.

so i did a little more digging. rock auto shows a dorman and raybestos brand replacement lug nut with washer that supposedly replaces three different toyota lugs.

90942-01077
90942-01053
90942-01060

Back checking these numbers with toyodiy.com shows that the 01053 number is for the 83-89 RN5 and RN6 frame truck....thats me. it shows the 01060 number as the celica wheel nut of 85-89 era.
and it shows the 01077 nut as being for the second gen 89-95 trucks.

sounds good but toyotapartseast.com says its not a good number.

edit....toyotapartszone.com says the 01053 is a good number

so here is my thinking...there were two types of these aluminum sr5 wheels, one with +8 offset and one with +15 offset.

if i am not mistaking, (someone correct me if they know im wrong) the offset +8 wheels came on the second gen 4runners and the +15 offset wheels are what came on the first gen 4runners.

so, assuming the wheel studs are the same, this might be why there are two different part numbers for the wheel lug nuts between first and second gen 4runners. (i think one is just longer than the other..here is why)

basically the +15 offset wheels would have less stud sticking out through the wheel hole when mounted (its thicker) than the +8 offset wheels. so a short lug nut might bottom out before being tightened down. so when the offset was reduced to only 8mm in the second generation...the lugnut had to be lengthened in order to make it not bottom out before tightening (by at least 7mm)...

this is just a theory but idk...

so i am going to try and pick up a set of the cheap dorman / raybestos sets and see if my theory is right before i spend 120 bucks on lug nuts from toyota...

I have two different sets of oem lug nuts that I got off ebay. Seller was BTI wheels out of Utah on both sets I think, one set for sure. I will double check but the shanks appeared to be the same but the length of the wrench end was longer on one set than the other. Not sure if that might also be the reason for different part numbers.
