I need some info on which wheel would fit right for my 93 hi-lux,i would like to use some old Toyota rims.in my searching i found out that there are several offsets this rim is available the most popular being the offset 8 which is common on 4runners.could someone point me in the right direction which offset would fit nicely?here is the pic of the rim i like.:D I will be looking around at my local junkyard for a set just want to make sure i get the right offset. Thanks in advance.

sub'd.

i am doing this on mine as well. trying to get rid of the cheesy 80's style aftermarket steel rims.

i picked up a used set of those same wheels for $20 a piece. i think i am going to have mine powder coated as the factory coating is long gone.

FWIW mine are offset 8 as well.

i think the early 80 series had the same wheel, with a different offset. supposedly when used on a 4runner the 80 wheels stick out a little more, but I dont know what offset they are

i like the wheels in the pic also. IMO those have the perfect offset for 86-95 IFS. most aftermarket wheels you will find used will stick out from the wheel wells. some people like that look, i don't. after 85 toyota changed the offset to compensate for the increased width of the rear axle and IFS.

Here ya go. Every single one I've ever seen was Offset-8 for up to a 31" or 32" tire. FWIW I only ever seen 8 offset's, even on the Cruisers, the metal insert on the Cruiser rims was IIRC to help keep them torqued properly and give a little added strength since the 80 Series weighed a considerable amount more. I've heard rumor's of another size but never seen any proof.

I can't speak for the early FJ80 rims, but I can guarantee you that those rims changed offset slightly with '90 4Runners & '89 pickups. Those pics above are from the '90-95 4Runner series. I have 2 sets of those style SR5 rims here from the earlier generations (both off '87 trucks), and I just checked both sets, they do NOT say "OFFSET 8" on them, and the size spec says "15x7JJ-15". The parts numbers are not the same either.

My '92 4Runner had those rims on it (Offset 8), and when I sold it to my buddy, he swapped AISIN hubs on it. He bought a set of those center caps off eBay that have the big hole in them for the manual hubs. When he put them on, they didn't fit correctly, the hub was too deep by about 1/2".

IIRC the last part is always the offset on anything newer than '92. ie: 15x7JJ-"#".

Why I took a spare set of rear centers and drilled them and turned the centers out to make a "new" set for my fronts.

*BTW, I'm loving that you guys have stumped me twice now w/i the last 6 months with these topics. I relearn or remember old crap daily.

John, if there is indeed another offset available besides the "8" and they stick out too far for your taste let me know b/c I switched back to 31's on mine to prevent interference w/ the 33's and steering idler arm at full left lock and articualtion.

For that matter, we could always just swap mine onto your truck for visuals this weekend?

Off to dinner..

The reason i ask about offset is there are a few rims on e-bay that were advertise as an offset 10 and if i'm not mistaken there could be a 16" rim as well.i know that these rims were on T100 and early 80 series.was there a change between the 1st gen 4runner and 2nd rims?i have already found a set near my house and want to make sure it's not the wrong one. Thanks a lot guys for your help.

Just found out through E-bay that offset 10 and 15 are really available some are stamped along the rims.it's still not clear what does it fit coz the ad. states that it fits 86 to 95 4runner,cruisers and T100.i'm sure someone has some answer to this puzzle.

I assume you're running the stock steel rims on your '93? If you are, you'll need new lug nuts to run the wheels in your pic.

This is very true. Don't run the tapered seat lug nuts on the alloy rims, you will damage them.

I really think the offset is so minimal that you could run any of them with no trouble. The same buddy with the '92 4Runner above also had a '98 T100, and he found a set of alloy rims from an '88 SR5 pickup, they swapped no problem.

My understanding is earlier mini trucks, later mini trucks, cruisers, and T100 all had different wheel backspacings. Somewhere I found a listing of them, but can't locate it now. This wheel question needs to be in the FAQ. It comes up often.

I agree it should be added to FAQ once this thing is figured out.i will continue research on this.:D

does anyone have a pic of what the lug nuts should look like for the aluminum rims? i am a newb in this area i guess. never really payed any attention to lug nuts.

but i got my wheels powdercoated and need to get new lugs cause i have the tapered ones. going to look at local tire joint for lugs or on the net, but i need to know what i am looking for.

thanks

Holy crap i think i just screwed up:bang:

i re-read this thread and KLF makes it sound like the offset 8 rims wont work on the older pre 89 trucks. cause they had offset 15.... (read elsewhere that this is possibly due to larger caliper clearance requirements up front??))

in my excitement to get these done i didnt even think to make sure they would fit....assumed that since they were toyota 4runner wheels that they would.

ill try it tonite, but i hope i didnt just waste a bunch of money getting wheels powder coated that dont fit!!!!!:bang::bang::bang::bang::bang:

edit....after thinking about it, if they dont fit for some reason i can always make up a spacer to space it out to 15mm offset. but they should be fine...i hope. here is a teaser. went with "tiger silver anodized" to get a close to oem look. turned out great imo

KLF,
thanks for the input. the ones in the link look pretty decent... anyone have any experience with them?

Wheels look great. If they have the flat place around the wheel stud holes instead of the cones then you need to ones KLF linked, otherwise the standard conical nuts.

I got both my sets from ebay. I got used oem lugs from a place in vegas I think. I will see if I can find the place or one of their auctions.

PHEW!!!

ok..they BARELY FIT on there....thank god.

jynx...if you could post a link to the used oem ones i would greatly appreciate it....

here is another teaser.
still got to get new valve stems, stick on weights, lugs, a couple missing center caps and oh yeah.....tires.
