Hi folks,

Just joined the forum. While I am not a Yota guy, I do love these trucks, and if I wasn't already an Isuzu guy I would likely be in a LC of some sort.

Anyway, I am building my 91 Trooper up expedition style and I am looking for a very simple steel wheel in 16 x 7. What I have been seeing that suits my needs are the older 16 x 7 Toyota steel rims, however I *think* these are actually for spare tires.

Now, my question is, being that these wheels are designed for spares, are they still as "stout" so to speak as a regular wheel? I would be looking at running a full set of these rims with either Toyo or BFG mudders in 255/85 R16.

Here is a pic of the wheels I am wondering about.

Any info about these wheels and their ruggedness would be much appreciated!!

Thanks -Bart

I used to run the 16" Tacoma spare steelies on my FJ55 using spacers. Look the same as the one you have pictured but black. Never had any problems on road or off. Seemed plenty strong to me, although I don't know for sure whether or not they are a lesser wheel b/c they are a spare.

Hope this is helpful.....good luck

Thanks. I am pretty much ready to pull the trigger on a set of these, and for the life of me I cannot see why they wouldn't hold up like any other rim, just thought I would see what you all had to say on here.

Thanks - Bart

What is the backspacing on them?

Memory fuzzy but iirc they were 4.5", maybe even as much as 5". I have one in the garage and can check for you if you like.

This would be much appreciated, as I am interested as well.
Thanks!

The 16"x7" 16hole from a 1st gen tacoma has 4.5" bs.

Checked this morning and 4.5" is right on.

Also, I had to have the front center holes enlarged to fit over hubs on the FJ55. Don't know how pertinent that is to those considering this wheel, but worth keeping in mind.

I ran 1" spacers with these wheels without any issues. Loved the wheels and only changed b/c I wanted to go back to stock steelies and caps.

Traveling 62,

Why did you use a 1 inch spacer, rubbing or looks? Also, I'm useing FJ60 axles on my 55, so I would have to enlarge the center too, Right. The hubs are the same, I think.

Thanks and sorry for the hijack!, Ron

Hey Scrap, spacers were mainly for rubbing, but also aesthetics b/c the tires looked too tucked in.

I assume you'd need them enlarged slighty, too, but the FJ55 has Warn hubs and your 60 axles are Aisin. Not sure what the difference in diameter is.

IsuzuGeek, these wheels would be great on your Trooper. I had a '90 once upon a time....
