Can I flat tow my 100 behind my coach or do I have to load it onto a trailer?

I used to flat tow my Jeep behind one with no problems...but I don't see anything in the users manual about it. I figured I'd ask about it the next time I take it in for service but figured someone here would know the process if any.

No flat towing possible. Your manual should have a section where it shows you all the ways the LC can't be towed and shows the flat-bed as your only option.

TSB issued as well.

Hmm...I wonder why. With the t-case and transmission in neutral and the cd unlocked I don't understand what the problem would be. Seems the same setup as my Gr. Cherokee with Quadradrive. Guess not.

On some 4wd vehicles, it depends on how the gears are driven and how the gear lube is circulated. Normally, the engine is driving the gears. Flat towing, the rotating tires are driving the gears. I don't know the LC reasons, but I would hate to risk anything... If you really had to flat tow the vehicle, you could probably take out the drive shafts. Then it's only the front and rear differentials turning - which are buried in gear lube.

If it says it's not to be done then I'll go with that. No reason to destroy a perfectly good vehicle by not following the owners manual. I have a car hauler...it's just easier to flat tow a 4x4 that is set up for it or to pull a FWD car on a dolly.

It kind of surprises me that a car built for the 3rd world would not be set up that way though.

I do think in my Rover's manual it says to remove the prop shafts if it has to be done...which is a lot bigger PITA than loading it on a trailer.

Ah yes, but 3rd world countries don't have as many lawyers as the USA.

There are driveline disconnects out there that you could install if you're set on flat towing. It's $'s because you have to have a drivline service modify and weld the drivlines. Find a driveline service, or machine shop in your area and get a estimate on it. It's a lot easier and cheaper than a car trailer.
