I'm looking at getting a pop up camper. Possibly as soon as this weekend. I still have to figure out a wiring harness. Is anyone towing pop up campers with there 80s? I'd like to be able to tow it across the country to different camping sites while being able to do different off trails (without the camper attached).

I do this all the time. I have towed a large pop-up all over multiple states with the same purpose, camping and then exploring backroads. I put the springs on top of the axle on my trailer as I tore off the rear bumper multiple times so the extra 5 inches of lift helped.

I was wondering how easy it'd be to lift the trailer and add larger tires. Then again I don't know if lifting it is a good idea. We want to also be able to tow it with the wife's odyssey.

It was relatively simple to lift it. I didn't go to a larger tire, but the clearance was definitely worth it. The towing remained the same and the only thing I have to deal with sometimes is how the jacks on the corners are higher now and sometimes won't reach the ground. I just carry some short 2x8's I stack for the jacks if needed. The issue with pop-ups is that the axle is relatively centered on most of them so the rear of the trailer really pivots down a lot, especially on backroads. I just got tired of dragging the corners.

The extra 5" makes a difference? Besides the extra clearance and the issues with the jacks did you notice anything else? What size camper is yours? I believe the one we are looking at is a 12' when fully closed.

Yes, the extra height made a difference. Its been lifted for almost 4 years with no other issues, It was well worth it. My camper is more like 16' when closed. It's pretty large with two kings and a slide out dinette.

I'm just using the OEM hitch. Can't quite find the right aftermarket bumper, especially with the loads I carry. I plan to build something over the winter though.

I have the factory hitch on there now but keep hitting it on the trails and had planned on getting a rear bumper I can attach the spare to. What are you using for the wiring harness?

why did you need to get that @NLXTACY ? My 94 and almost all the 1FZs I have dismantled have the 4 pin from the factory. I guess someone removed theirs?

to the OP, towing a popup will be a piece of cake for the 80. so long as it's a normal size popup, some of those newer ones are luxury yachts

I never removed mine. Didn't know it actually came with one. I have only had the 80 for a couple of months.

The pop up were looking at is 12' close and I believed goes to 24' when opened. Weighs ~2500 lbs.
