Need to replace the throttle cable on my 1975 FJ40. I'm not terribly mechanical - but I'm trying!!
I managed to fix the shredded cable temporarily with some cable clamps - but realise that is not a long-term - or safe - solution!
Question is... do I order a universal throttle cable, an FJ40 cable or one that is compatible with the Crate 350/Edelbrock setup?
Thanks (in advance) for any advice!

If the outer housing isn't all shredded, you could install a new inner cable. Usually you would need to make an end for the hook up to the pedal. A section of bolt the right diameter is drilled cross ways your cable size (1/16"). Then drill about 1/2 threw with a larger drill at least 1/8". Insert your cable threw the small end, then unwrap the cable and use plyers to bend each strand 180 degrees - then pull the cable and seat the over ends back into the large hole. Low temp silver solder with proper flux the bent over wires in place.

Super glue the end of the cable (keeps it from unraveling). Route the cable threw the housing from the pedal side, then at the length where you will clamp it to the carb super glue it again before you cut it to length.

I like stainless steel cable. I would also flush the housing with WD-40 and then add cable lube.
I have the Yamaha cable lube tool from the 70, uses the P tube from the WD40 or cable lube can.
