Mailed my mother a late Mother's day present on Tuesday via USPS. She lives in Indian Land SC, just south of CLT. That's about 160 miles / 3 hour drive between our houses. Package was picked up on Tuesday, and by yesterday morning was at the "MID CAROLINA-CHARLOTTE NC DISTRIBUTION CENTER ". It has now sat there for ~26 hours, with an estimated delivery for tomorrow. this shipment isn't time sensitive, thank God, but why the hell didn't they just send it out for delivery today. Package was sent Priority Mail. Sometimes I think they hold things so as not to "over-deliver" on the level of service.

Maybe this is just positive thinking...but I've had some issues with tracking updates recently. Just this week I got an email - your package has shipped, but when tracking it said waiting on package to be received by courier. It said this for even a day after it was delivered, lol!

So apparently the ineptitude of the parts counter guy spans all makes and models....

Go to VW to buy some oil filters. Always ask for my vin, even though I usually know what filter to ask for. Anyway, this time I forgot which one and didn't have the vin handy. He asks if its ever been serviced there, no I reply. But I did buy it here. Name? He asks. I respond, he looks me up and then grabs 3 small boxes from under the counter. I pay and head home.

Fast forward to this evening, I drop skid pan, drain oil and spin off the old filter. All is going great until I open one of the filter boxes. . . .

Cartridge style filter.. What The F!

So at 8 pm I had to drive my happy butt to the parts store to get a filter so I could finish my oil change...

I will be stopping by in the morning to swap them and have a chat with someone about how I will find a nice on-line vendor to purchase from moving forward since their counter guy can't get it right, even when it is literally right on the screen...

Anybody got a good vw parts source. Looking at ECS tuning right now, but open to good recommendations. Thanks

I've used ecs in the past, but tend to buy parts off of Amazon or rockauto most of the time. Mahle for german stuff.

@jynx I don’t know, man. He might have been trying to tell you that cars with canister filters are a BREEZE to do oil changes on. That, and 49mpg, are the only things I miss about Sarah’s old TDI Jetta.

While I’m here... Isolation has been killing my MPG’s. My white LX, that routinely gets nearly 18mpg hwy, has been averaging 12.5 since only making short trips in town. Shít, I can almost get that in my 40! The 470 isn’t any better.

@jynx I don’t know, man. He might have been trying to tell you that cars with canister filters are a BREEZE to do oil changes on. That, and 49mpg, are the only things I miss about Sarah’s old TDI Jetta.

Yeah, we had a 2008 and had the cam not gone down in it and I couldn't find anyone local willing to do the cam replacement, I'd still be driving that. But my 2016 with the 1.4T gas motor still gets around 41 mpg.

one of my dumbass tenants apparently has never lived in a house with AC before. So at night she gets too cold and blasts it to hot. Then she gets hot and drops it to the coldest setting. I told her to stop doing that but she didn’t listen and fried the AC unit. Then I get a quote for $8000 to replace the unit. I think the price is ****ing ridiculous but of course the dumbass that broke the AC is complaining that she needs AC and I have to now replace the unit. of course she also has not been 1 month behind on rent since November.
I ****ing hate people some times.
unfortanetly she has another year on her lease so I have to wait to get her the hell out of my property.

It gets worse. This is the third time in less than a year we have had to send a technician out to the house. $300-$500 every time. The second unit also needs to be charged So that’s going to be another $1200.
I normally don’t let s*** like this bother me. It is part of being a landlord and I have been at it for a long time but the fact that she is too dumb to change the filters out - which I had to buy and drop off and she still hasn’t changed them. Or the fact that she won’t answer emails or texts when we are trying to schedule the repair is annoying as hell. Again and she is still behind on rent. Sometimes I will get a response to my texts around midnight a month later.

Dude that's awful, I'm so sorry. Just so you know there are thermostats you can install that have a master control the tenant cannot change - you can set a range for AC or heat and that's it.

Buy a Nest or similar. Make her give you the password to her network. Change the settings whenever you feel like it.

Something like the Nest as John suggested is a superior design since it can be remotely controlled but frankly if she's this terrible with communication and the like I would be worried she'd change wifi passwords just to be petty. He would know better than I, maybe she can't override, though? Either way the ones I sent are very limited and cannot be messed with by either of you - but if she's smart she'd swap them out (if she won't change the freaking filters I doubt she'd go that far, though).

Ugh. I feel for you. I'm so grateful to have landlords that take care of me - but I take good care of their property so it's a pretty mutually beneficial friendship!

You need to get one of those HVAC controller setups like they have at hotels or in the barracks that only let you adjust within certain parameters

I have had 9 different VWs, and have always found maintenance parts in Amazon easier and cheaper than any dealer. For performance parts, ECS is fine or APR.

Lol, I've probably bought more VW parts off of one vw than every other car I've owned combined.

Rock auto, Amazon is good. Mahle, Mann etc. For oem stuff ID parts. I have also used Kerma and Bora parts.... bora gave me an awesome deal on a brand new OEM trans with an aftermarket 5th gear a few years back. EDIT: Bora is now cascade German or something like that and I have no experience with them.

Since I took the VW back from my sister ill be right there with you ordering parts again. If only I didn't love manuals and diesels so much.... lol.

Original plan was to pull the motor for a.yota truck swap but I need a high MPG DD currently.

I did a 7 hour round trip on Tuesday for a 15 minute inspection.

So ill drive the vw again.... meanwhile ive been watching audi tdi swap videos.

Got to love people these days.

So my mom's neighbor had asked if she can help cut down some branches from her tree that are going over in to his yard. I head over with my chainsaw and with his help cut them off. Now his yard waste can and my mom's are already full. Tuesday and Thursday are the only days the dump will take it (this was last Sunday) and i'm traveling for work on those days anyway. So he tells me to just take it to the wooded area that is along the long blvd that connects her neighborhood to the hwy. I go and ask her neighbor on the other side since he is head of the neighborhood association and he can't see a problem with that and says lots of people do it.

So I load it up as my 8 year old nephew if he wants to join and off we go. I drag the three long branches way back into the woods and leave them. As i'm about to leave a guy pulls up and asks if i'm dumping stuff there.

Now I had expected that because the people outside the neighborhood does suffer from outsiders dumping things like bed frames and things there (i've helped out with a few clean ups). I tell him yep just taking some tree branches there and that they are from my mom's house that lives in the neighborhood. Guy just completely looses it and goes agro. I keep my cool, because my nephew is with me mostly, while he is screaming away and i'm calmly answering him. He says the police will see this as dumping. At that moment a cop drives by so I wave to him (lives in the neighborhood) and say well there is one why don't you ask him. He ignores it keeps ranting and then says he is going to call the cops on me.

Done with his crap I start to back out and on the back of his car is a huge decal along his glass that says COPS ARE KILLERS.... so I stop and say hey you think all cops are killers and you want to then call them on me for throwing a tree branch in the forest?? He says well you would get what you deserve then...... I drive off back into my mom's hood.

He drove through the neighborhood to find where my truck was parked because some more of my mom's neighbors from across the street came and rang her doorbell. They had seen him yelling at me and had turned around as he was leaving and saw him drive past my mom's house and take a picture. They were concerned as they didn't know him. I told them i've seen him in the neighborhood before and i'm not too worried about it but ask them if they can keep an eye out if i'm not there. Last thing I need is this hot head going off on my 68 year old mom.

He drives by again when i'm outside changing the oil on my moms car and gets out. Asks if i'm going to go and get my "trash" out of the woods. I tell him we can talk like adults but if he continues to scream and cuss for no reason I may do the same, and then I get out from under the car. Now till now I don't think he had any idea how large I was because he had only seen me in truck. I could tell by his eyes that his balls shrank two sizes at that moment. He basically turned around and left without saying anything else.

Later that night his wife (who wasn't present for any of this) posts on the neighborhood facebook page (with the pictures the guy took of my truck and my mom's house) that it was her that had confronted me and I had gotten aggressive with her. She says if anyone knows this guy tell him its not ok to talk to women like that and our forest area is not a dumping ground for tree limbs. I was going to post up but let myself calm for a bit. By then my mom's two neighbors that had witnessed her husband acting like a fool posted up and cleared it up. Basically stating it was her husband that was being aggressive and she wasn't even there. An numerous people posted up who da fuq cares if someone throws at tree branch into the forest. Post got deleted by the admin and they got a warning not to spread lies or post pictures of neighbors houses without their consent on the board.

Can't wait till I run into him at some of the neighborhood things I volunteer for. lol

Holy s***, sounds like dude has some serious mental health issues - glad you were able to keep cool given the circumstances, but yeah - you do have size on your side. Can't believe he's got a sticker like that and still thinks he can call the cops. Gross.
