I replaced all 8 of my Coil Packs this weekend with Denso packs & Denso Iridium Spark Plugs. When reading this forum I thought that I found the right torque values but, I am pretty sure that the Coil Pack bolts torque was off because I snapped the very first one off. Luckily I was able to get the snapped bolt out somewhat easily, so I applied the following torque and wanted to see how close I am?
Head Cover Bolts: (4.4 Ft Lbs.) 53 Inch Pounds
Spark Plugs: (15 Ft Lbs.) 180 Inch Pounds
Coil Bolts: (16.6 Ft Lbs.) 200 Inch Pounds
On the positive side, I had no check engine codes before this work but, it felt like I had more vibration when I touched the 4 wheel drive lever while accelerating. Now that vibration feels like it has been cut down to 50% of what it was.
My 2001 LX with 123,000 miles feels like it might have a little more power too. The coils as far as I know have never been changed because nothing is in the service records about changing them & they were stamped with Toyota. Overall the spark plugs, old coil packs & spark plug holes were very clean before I even touched them!
