I’ve just received the technical overview of my car from Toyota (need for importation) they recon new in ’88 my HJ75 with 2H engine had a top speed of 135kmph – off a cliff maybe… so if I struggle to get to 100 / 110 kmph I need to check the ‘max speed’ setting – any pointers where to start doing this ?

Cheers
Matt

The max speed setting on the pump is virtually never the problem.

Do ALL of the other stuff first - accelerator cable adjustment, injection timing, valve adjustment, filters, diaphragm if needed...

The max speed screw does very little other than prevent over-revving. You test it by putting your foot to the floor and seeing what the revs go up to before the governor limits RPM.

Top speed and Land Cruiser used in the same sentence. That is something one seldom sees. ................1978HJ45

compression test would be my first test.
then filters.
then the rest of the tests...
135 k/h is easily doable in a 75 series with a strong engine
but
your fuel mileage will be the s***s

My truck also has fairly decent acceleration if I stomp on the skinny pedal. When I first got the truck I took it on the highway and stomped on it to see what it would do. It did 160kph with little effort. It was the wheel wobble that made me slow down. I've never taken it past 160 since. It will do 140 kph no problem.

I´ve easily reached 155kph@3500RPM, I have the FZJ73 carb and 33” and I won't repeat it

IF the truck is tight, IF you don't mind a good sized ticket and increase in insurance rates, IF your steering is tight and the brakes are good
then
190 k/h is possible with a HZJ75 turbo with propane on 35s...

135 k/h is Alberta cruising speeds ... and even then you will be passed regularily.

1hz, turboed

185kmph (offroad)

Still had more

:p

That is good to hear, cruising speeds on the New Jersey Turnpike hover around 125kph.

My fzj 79 has cruised to 160 ish kph before

I just reached (according to the Garmin) 132km/h on my 1986 BJ70....(296000km's on her) I must have had a hell of a tailwind going downhill, but the truck still felt steady. Didn't quite realize the speed as I was cruising an interstate in Wisconsin and just keeping up with traffic...
