I'm looking for a tool kit with a case that's only metric to carry in my 120. Anybody know of such a thing? I figure why take up space with SAE tools I won't use.

If not, I'll probably buy the individual tools and put them in one of those roll-up organizers so they don't rattle.

Thanks

sears used to carry 100 or so piece kits that were available in either sae or metric.

I buy a metric set and throw out all the DIN pieces because you will never need 13, 15, 18 mm etc on a Toyota. A ll Japanese cars use JIS.
What size are the drive shaft U joint bolts? I seem to recall they are 13mm.

Here is what I would do!

By a pelican case "bright yellow" and make up your own kit ONLY with the socket sizes you need. Put petroleum resistant foam that is easy to clean "any recommends" in it. Then mark out each part of the foam where the socket sits and cut it out. If you have enough room, make each hold deep enough to hold two of the same socket in the event, you loose one.

Spray paint each socket bright florescent orange. Easy to see at night if dropped on the ground.

Include new bolt kit, drill out drill kit and new inserts in the event the smaller bolts break.

Good luck.

IMHO, get a decent Craftsman set in the blow molded case. Dump the SAE (fuggin amazing you can't just get metric in full kits) and swap in the extras you want. You can trim the blow mold out of the SAE side, use expanding foam and cut it out to fit your other specialized tools, then coat the foam in bedliner paint to help it keep its shape and seal.

Works great!

Sears no longer sells the metric only kits and when they did, they had a lot of DIN metric and lacked a lot of JIS sizes. For example, they gave you a 11mm, 13mm 15mm, 16mm and 18mm but no 19mm...sometimes not even a 17. You can find them on ebay and beef them up for JIS.

Like the all mighty Pin Head said: There is no 13mm on a stock cruiser or anything else Japanese.

I have a great little metric only kit made by Proxxon:

http://www.mogsrus.com/23650.html Covers JIS well but also includes the other metic sizes. I bought mine for less than listed here off a european website.

I also have a nice kit made by Blue Point (Taiwan Snapon) with FULL SAE and Metric. It has SAE but at least it has a full metric assortment and then I have the stuff for the odd muffler hanger, muffler clamp, battery cable bolt, radiator clamps, fuel line clamps, U bolt clamps, shock bolts, Warn winch and other SAE stuff that somehow often winds up on an otherwise Japanese truck.

put together your own set with spline drive sockets and wrenches that way you have metric covered and SAE if/when needed. It's not the end all be all especially if you truly need a 6pt socket but they work well. Most major truck based tool companies carry spline tools. I have noticed that Lowes now sells splined sockets but they aren't normal sockets or ratchets. The ratcheting wrenches I've seen are the flip to change direction rather than flip the lever.

I wouldn't want to not having 13mm , never know there's some 13mm bolt from PO in your truck and
honestly 13mm socket doesn't weigh that much

I have purchased Blue Point kits that are all metric off eBay. They come with wrenches and sockets plus more. Best buy for your buck in a quality used kit in a molded case. IIRC they are called their mobile service kits.

I totally agree. Just like 10mm is all over everything Japanese, 13mm is all over everything European so its always nice to have.

Got a link, part number and or pic?

thanks!

Look at this on eBay:

BLUE POINT TOOL SET 100 PC GENERAL SERVICE 1/4 + 3/8 DRIVE

This set is sae and metric sockets and wrenches.

This way you have both on hand. They also make one in all metric if you only want that one.
