Well, it seems the battery is a lost cause, can get it charged but it goes nearly dead overnight (on the workbench). Need to take it back to Interstate for a replacement, they charged it before and told me it was fine but they only had it a few hours.

I couldn't even get the truck to start by jumping it from the 4runner (V8). Seems to spin enough but just won't catch.

Is there anything else that could be wrong besides not enough juice? Truck hasn't been started in months now....

the starter just cranks and cranks, never a cough or catch... guess I'll be doing some trouble shooting this week. I've had the battery in and out so many times, maybe I messed up the fusible links or something.

Found tons of good trouble shooting info with pics on here so I'll just start in and find it. :)

Is there a clog in the fuel line or a dead fuel pump??

Did you put gas in it? :)

If its cranking, and you havent messed with the ign wiring, dont start messing with it now.

Start with the simple stuff, and then work toward the complex

Step #1
Take a can of carb clean, or either, spray a little bit into the intake, crank. if it sputters you have a fuel issue.

Step #2
Get a rubber mallet and a buddy, beat the bottom of the gas tank while your buddy turns the key. If it starts up you have a bad fuel pump.

while option #2 seems ridiculous...I have seen it work at wildmans shop on a newish chevy 1500.

thanks guys, I will try all that before I start messing with electrical. I did order a set of fusible links from the dealer as a precaution, at $12 for all 3 it's a no-brainer spare in the glovebox.

I wouldn't be surprised if my fuel pump went, my gas tank is beat to ****, I'm gathering parts to replace it actually.

The fuel pump isn't the first place I'd look. Try the carb cleaner trick, I don't think it will make any difference.

The carb cleaner trick is just a diagosis tool, not trying to make the truck run, just figure out if its getting fuel or not. Same with hammering on the tank. It will get ya off the trail or out of a parking lot a couple times, but thats about it. If the truck has sat for a length of time with a beat up tank my money is on the fuel pump.

had to run to tykes...boy....its so nice to have him close...and a great guy to deal with.

had to get a new power booster...the current owner of my truck (me) was an idiot and broke a stud off the power booster :bang:

new one already on :D

If the Wally sees this...Ummmm tetanus no longer...new one all painted up and looking good...thanks buddy :D

Not Cruiser related, but it is wrenching...

'81 Suzuki GS650E I stopped riding it when I bought the Valkyrie nine years ago.
Been sitting in the barn nice and dry all this time. I did prep it for storage and glad I did, it almost idles on nine year old gas! And the battery is still good!
Time to resurrect it and sell it. Cleaned the tank, little rust, yeah! Soaked and rebuilt the carbs. Ordered four new intakes and o-rings. Lubed the cables. Adjusted the clutch and chain. Hope to get it back together next weekend and weather permitting, go for a ride.

Hey I recognize that plywood floor!

Check your fuel lines too, and other rubber components, fuel will eat em up over time.

Look Rick, no more bling.

New shoes for the upcoming season. No rubbing thanks to Kina's body mount chop.
