Hey guys, I am trying to decide if I should Monstaliner or wrap my 80. My LC is white and I am not a fan of the color. I should state that my LC is an off road toy for me and not a daily drive which is making me lean towards Monstalinering it. I love the way the wraps look though but I don't want to worry about the wrap getting scratched when riding the trails. Its not uncommon for us to have branches scrap the LC 40% of the time we are in the woods. Should I be worried about the wrap getting scratched easily? My only fear with Monstaliner is that you really can't come back from that and I am unsure how well it holds up over time. I've seen many threads on here describing both but I couldn't find one on a comparison between the two (sorry if I missed it). I am also curious of the cost difference between the two.

Thoughts, opinions, or personally experiences would be greatly appreciated.

A wrap is nice because if you scratch it you can replace just that part where the paint would be more detailed. Monstaliner you wouldn't have to worry about scratching it to the paint, your only decision would be rolled or spray it on.

I've been scraped by several 1/2" or larger tree branches with no damage to my Monstaliner. Cost less than $300 and has held on for 4 years now.

Whats the pros and cons of rolling Monstaliner vs spraying it?

With rolling there is more texture to the monstaliner, spraying goes on a little smoother.

See I believe that's what I need. I'm afraid with wrap that I would be scared to take it on the trails. Although, I personally like the clean look of wrap. But I have no problem with the way monstaliner looks. I would just hate to put monstaliner on and one day want to change it to something different.

With the Monstaliner you are stuck pretty much. Me personally I have looked at doing wrap, monstaliner or rattle canning it. I am going to rattle, can it.

Don't wrap it. Bedliner is the way to go. I have a wrapped 80...it's fragile. Part of my business deals with wrapped cars...they can be a pain in the ass as they age if they haven't been taken care of. I prefer Raptor liner sprayed with very little texture. Cool stuff and an easy DIY.

There are some new gloss vinyls that can apparently be polished just like paint....haven't seen them yet but it seems like that's the way the vinyl industry is headed with some of it's products.

I guess my main question is has there ever been someone that has monstaliner their 80 and regretted it? On the flip side, has anyone wrapped their 80 and then later Monstalinered it later because they were not happy with the performance of the wrap?

I haven't looked into rattle canning it. I will have to check that out.

As long as you take the time to prep the LC for paint, and properly spray the paint on you will be fine. I sprayed the right rear qtr to get an idea of how it would look. This is Krylon and you can buy it Home Depot in single cans or six packs.

That looks really good. Do you have to put a primer on first?

If it's a trail rig and you don't like the paint, I would Monsta/Raptor coat it. That stuff will stand up to whatever abuse you put it through. Rattle can is fine too, but you will find yourself repainting it and touching it up fairly often, which is not a big problem, just a pain. Rattle can takes upkeep, Monsta/Raptor is do it right once and forget.

Thanks for the information. I believe I will go with Monstaliner in the end. Being that it is an off road toy for me, I want it to be able to take a beating. Seems like a very cost effective way to get a new color LC and have a reliable durable coating.
