Bought four brand new wheels, new tires and new TMPS sensors on my GX460. Tire light came on. Checked for codes with my ODBII reader and came back clean. Interestingly my original wheels / tires also had the light on as well before I replaced everything—me thinking a TMPS sensor was bad.

Ideas?

You might got the switch on 2nd TPMS. Thinking you got GX470 with the hidden switch that can switch between two different wheel and tire. Did you program it as first set or second set?

Discount tire handled all of it so I do not know. How can I check or do I need to take it to them to diagnose?

Note: this is happening on my GX460.

Gx460 does not have dual TPMS capability.

Also did you check the spare? It got TPMS also.

Hah the spare!! No I didn’t—makes sense. Can I remove that sensor from the list to detect? In other words only have the vehicle look for the four main tire sensors and not bother with that one?

I don't think so without hacking the firmware. Don't think it was listed as option in techstream.

Thanks mate. I’ll go ahead and have discount tire put on another Ridge Grappler tire on a 17” spare and replace that sensor.

Speaking of techstream, is this a decent one? If not what’s a good brand and where’s a good place to get one on sale? I put together a cheap Windows 7 notebook specifically for this purpose.

Correct.. no way I have seen with Techstream to use anything other than 5 IDs.

Out of curiosity what were you using to check for codes?

Not all OBD apps & adapters will access the TPMS ECU on 460. OBD Link definitely will. I know some like to turn off TPMS but with OBD link easy to check tire pressure all at once as well as the tire temperatures. TPMS sensors are cheap these days.

While US 460s do not have the 2nd switch the middle eastern spec 460s apparently have it.

It more than likely can't read the Toyota/Lexus extended codes. The only ECU I can't query with OBD Fusion/Link is the one for KDSS. I do have a Techstream install setup for programming and other troubleshooting. That TPMS light should have given you a code.

Did you just check the pressure of your spare?
I used my spare to pressurize my water jerry can. After a few days, the pressure in my spare drops to where the TPS lights up on my dash.
I just use my handy-dandy on-board compressor and charge up my spare tire again!
Unfortunately our beloved GX's don't have individual tire display that would show which tire is low.

You can use Scangauge (reportedly) but with OBD Fusion/Link (I use) you can tell which tire, You do have to identify which sensor is which as you add each tire to the app by dropping pressure in each tire.

I imagine one would also have to remap every time the tires were rotated?

Just change the name of each PSI gauge you have setup in OBD Fusion/Link. All of a minute or so. If you lose track just let air out of your tires to figure out which one is which :)
