Hey All, just re-read Doug's first message...figured I'd introduce myself.

I'm Bert...middle-aged-ish. I'm in Belmont/San Mateo area in California (SF Bay Area), and will be in my green 80 series. Pretty standard 80's mods...3"-ish lift, 37's (picking up freshies on Thursday), rear Eaton locker, Tcase 3.1:1 low, part time, Delta stuff here and there, RCVs rear, armored, Dissent high clearance front and extreme high rear, 105 sector shaft in rebuilt steering box - reinforced frame.

HAM: KE0KRW. Rubicon first-timer.

To do list: brake lines axle to caliper all around and flush, and install some hockey pucks in front bump stop.. Not much else as I just did Cruise Moab, and the 80 handled it like a champ...only did Fins and Poison Spider. Maybe I met some of you there?

Doug - I've got some 80's spares to bring too...complete steering box, spare pump, complete drag link and tie rod, rear axle shafts...front inner axle seals and various hoses (old OEM and new hoses, various ID and lengths).

If anyone is coming from a long way and forgot something, just give me a shout...can try and find it before driving up.
Awesome, looks like your well setup. Acquiring parts but not sure if I’ll have my steering box rebuilt with a 105 sector shaft. At the very least I’ll have a spare stock box.

The last pic is me! I wasn’t sure the poster child for Cruise Moab this year.
Different wheels and added the KC since that pic was taken.
Nice! Our 80's have met then! I'll be mostly the same just with 37's. Woohoo! One of my 35's just had the tread peel off last Thursday. Guess Moab took its toll on that tire. They are done.

The lights in the arena make my truck look way better than it actually does.
That’s wild about the tire! New shoes incoming! What did you go with?

The new Toyo RT Pro's...took a while to arrive at a shop in SoCal. I had hoped they would arrive before Cruise but didn't happen. Its all good...i'll have them soon enough.

I chimed in earlier but didn’t give a proper introduction.
My name is Rocky (KK7EKV) I live in Kalispell MT. My good friend Jed and I will be trailering my Red 1969 40 down for the breakfast run.
Neither of us have ran the rubicon but are very excited to get this opportunity.
My 40 (LeRoy) has a heart transplant with a 3FE and H55 trany that the po had done when I purchased it. Since then I’ve put a 3” lift, 35’s, 5.29’s front & rear, arb lockers front & rear, birfs, disc brakes in the rear, sliders & 4plus bumpers. Recently added low gears in the transfer case as well as advanced adapters dual sticks. Can’t wait to meet everyone and do some wheeling together!

Doug I have your chirp file down loaded on one of my uv5r and ready to go.

Trying to plan out our road trip down and allow enough time. How long does it take to get to the trailhead from south lake?

just about 2 hours...
you'll want to top of with gas at Fresh Pond Chevron, it s few miles past Ice House road.

Also take into consideration that they are doing road work and have delays up to 40 min .

Time for an introduction here. Name's Anthony, out of Penngrove, Sonoma County. Rig is a '94 80. Factory 3x locked, 37's, slinky, icon, delta suspension. Bellfab bumper, winch. RCVs in the front, 4.88 and regeared part time T case.

First time rubithon attendee, first time rubicon driver. Been wheeling a long time in various Toyota vehicles, trails like gold lake, snake lake, Sourgrass, Moab, Baja... but this is my biggest set of tires yet, and the biggest set of rocks I've tried to drive over!

Built this rig over the past year or two from bone stock, with a major chunk of the work completed this spring. I've got one solid shakedown run up in the Mendo national forest under my belt, but would like to take it out on some rocks before rubithon... so far everything's working and holding up nicely.

To do list:
Wire my lights
Delete front sway bar
Considering removing rear bumper for the trip. Have plans for a nice low profile steel bumper, but won't get it done in time for rubithon...
Freshen up power steering fluid. PS system is all stock...
Aaaand a million other little items 😂

That's it! Can't wait to meet everyone and get to wheeling!

Nice build, on the power steering, adding a cooler and using synthetic hydraulic fluid helps a lot, (higher boiling point). A 12” aux fan on the passenger side helps the a/c and low speed stuff, (use a god spal pusher fan, cheep ones don’t last..). See you at the springs…

Rockstar, looking forward to meeting you, safe travels, neighbor moved up your way years ago, Jim Morris, run into him up there yet ? Safeway Corporate guy.

Likewise! Thanks. Currently rebuilding the entire front end and adding a lift to my 3/4 ton dodge which will be the tow rig for the trip. Hopefully I can get it completed with time to spare.
I haven’t bumped into him, we don’t have a Safeway in Kalispell but there’s one in whitefish about 7 miles north. He a fellow cruiser head?

Ok quick intro since I’m 99% sure I’ll be there.
I’m Michael. I live in Tahoe not too far from the exit of the trail. This will be my 5th run on the Rubicon. 3rd time with Doug. Normally I go with my younger son but after months of working on the truck with me, he got an opportunity to go to a week long camp he can’t pass up so I’ll be with my older, less truck enthusiastic, son Logan. It will be his 2nd run.

Over the last 6 months I’ve take a fairly stock FJ and turned it into a monster I’m not sure behaves properly yet. It got a SOA on 60 springs and axles. It’s on 38s. Powered by LS 5.3 with an NV4500 and 4:1 Orion Tcase with 4.10 diffs and ARB lockers. This was all done by my son and I with very little experience. Lost of advice from Valley Hybrids. I hope it holds up!

Today it ran for the first time! We pulled it out and around the block. Once we figured out that it works we put the cage back on and took it for a little spin on a local trail and promptly overheated. After my wife rescued us I figured out that I had the fan on blow and not suck. Quick wire swap. Now that it sucks it’s running cooler. I already found a fuel leak, lost a bead lock bolt and found a loose shackle.

Many more test drives required!
