Pretty cool, and good price for that! Would be great in a Toyota pick-up or lighter 40 series.

There is a guy who put one in his LJ78 on this forum. As cool an engine as they are, IMHO, they are too small for a 5000lb LWB cruiser. The fellow had to upgrade the motor a lot to get decent power out of it, and suffers some high EGT under load as a result.

I think I'd be looking at a 3.0 litre displacement or more....

You could get away with it around town… but since you tow up the hat I can see why it wouldn’t be enough. My 40 is about 4700 lbs empty so it’d be a bit light for mine.

The 7.3 drags 9500 lbs over the hat like it’s nothing… so 3.6 for 5000 lbs would be similar… 1.9 for 5000 would be a ton less power.

I know displacement doesn’t necessarily equal torque to drag a rig around, but getting the same torque out of a 1.9 as a 3+ litre would take some doing.

Now if you had an aluminum bodied, soft top 40, and didn’t tow a heavy trailer it’d be a different story. I’d imagine the fuel economy would be a step up… probably even on a 3B.

You nailed it, and yes, they definitely get great fuel economy.

This one looks good

Nice looking little survivor.

Wheeling in an ‘81 mini-truck was torture compared to my Landcruiser. The long box pickup my roommate had bounced and bashed over everything. In comparison my 4700 lb 40 flexed and absorbed rocks and obstacles 100X better.

Too bad it’s not diesel.

Go back thru this thread, Nick posted this a while back I think.

Since when have you started browsing facebook? :D

I think Graham talked that fellow into building that truck. Cummins 6BT in there. Always thought that motor was a bit big for a cruiser (weight). Cool truck with a lot of potential though; and price is very fair IMHO.

Couple pics for those not on f-book. Truck is $15k.
