If I didn't have a 40. I remember wanting to buy an '88 4Runner... one of the last Solid Axle 4Runners.
Buddy of mine had one. Fun trucks.

The list of convertible trucks is pretty damn short really.

Didn't they switch to IFS in 85 or 86 tho? His was ifs, and I want to say it was an 88 but, it's been a couple decades.

You are correct… ‘85 was the last year with solid axle. Mixing up my 4Runner facts. Time for Landcruiser axles.

Young people these days, the Snowflake generation because they all want to be special and unique and are extremely delicate.

Snowflakes:

“cars are ruining the planet and going to kill us all”

Don’t worry about getting your fossil fuel burning vehicle stolen, worry about getting your air polluting planet killing suv tires deflated. These virtual signalling libtards don’t drive, probably never seen a manual transmission other than when their parents drive them to the Ferrari dealership to glue themselves to the floor or middle of the freeway.
On-board-air will take care of that problem.

Sweet truck for a decent price (compared to prices even just a few months ago). @Rigpig make it LHD and put a 1HDT in? Then watch it sit in the driveway not going anywhere?

Could buy a new H55 for that money.

New yes but with the wrong input shaft for a 3b. So you would also require the correct input shaft $$ and some disassembly of the brand new transmission.

That’s assuming you’d want a 3B input shaft. :D

I’ve read H55 gear spacing isn’t great for a NA 3B.

Sounds like you missed the topic of discussion.

The original poster was comparing a sales add for a used rebuilt 3B transmission to the price of a new transmission. The new transmission comes with the incorrect input shaft for the 3b so to make that comparison you would have to factor in the cost of the correct input shaft, about 700$ the last time I bought one for Japan.

The five speed is actually pretty nice with 3.70 differentials the people that have issue with the gear spacing is with 4.11s.

I stand corrected. Despite much internal debate I’ve decided not to own a 3b. My only experience driving one was in a 60 series with a five speed on level ground near the dealership. To put it in perspective the asking price was something like 6 or 7 thousand for a fairly rust free 60 at a dealership. My memory of the details is somewhat vague. At the time that seemed like a lot of money for a Landcruiser. 🤷‍♂️

Yes I would imagine that shaft is not cheap, plus the you have drop the bottom gears to get enough clearance to pull the front splined shaft out.

I'm confused. It says fine spline for a 3B. So it has the wrong input shaft for that motor? I was of the understanding that all B motors had
the same input shaft so they were interchangeable. As I thought the B, 3B and even 13BT all shared the same input shaft?
Correct me if I'm wrong since I just don't know

Also, why sell a transmission stacked with transfer if transfer is not for sale. Seems a bit fishy, as maybe the transmission for
sale isn't the one in the pic.
