TJM 9-way adj shocks?

I got the shocks from Advance Auto. They are $115.99 - $40.00 coupon(PC4U123) =75.99 with free shipping. I bought each shock separately. I had to use a couple of different coupon codes that I got off the internet because some are a one time use only. There may be a rebate from Rancho right now also. Check their website.

The controller is a different story. I got if used off of Ebay for a great price. The guy I bought it from said it worked fine, but I think he was stretching the truth a bit. The compressor kept turning off and on and would not adjust right. I took the solenoid apart and there were two broken wires. I soldered them back together and it now works perfectly.

The new controllers are wireless, you can put it anywhere. The front and back shocks can be controlled independently. I am pretty sure guards can be made. I have not looked in to it. Since I have 8 extra nibs, I can just put new ones on with an allen wrench.

Oh, by the way, the deal with the coupon. Please don't tell anyone else.:p Advance might catch on.

Where do you plan to mount your compressor? i have a rancho myride kit waiting to install on my tjm 9way shocks.

Well.... I used silicone adhesive to glue a 3/8" 8x14 piece of finished board in my right rear quarter panel. I took out the speaker years ago. I all ready have 12v power going back to two amps. I then screwed the pump and solenoid to the board. The pump is very loud. It only runs a few seconds when you change settings. No big deal. I would post a picture, but I am no engineer and it is not pretty. I think it would make the OCD guys have a panic attack.:eek::eek::eek::eek:

I was planning on mountin mine on the right side of the bay firewall. Would underhood temps be an issue?

Dont be afraid to post pics of redneck engineering. I have been fixin rust/body damage with license plates on the 80. I am berry proud of my last project TuRDvalanch'e. I plan on doing the same to the 80 as soon as the rust gets a little worser. :hillbilly:

I always wondered where Chevy got their inspiration for the Avalanche!

I think most people mount it somewhere in the engine compartment. My engine bay is getting a little full with my dual battery setup. After taking the solenoid box apart, I think excessive heat, humidity, moisture, and dirt will shorten the life of the electronic components. In the back quarter panel I won't have to worry about those issues.

I guess it answers the question if the Rancho and TJM adjustable shock is the same???!

I was wondering about the same thing. After reading the specs only difference I can tell is the TJM shocks has solid foam cell......not sure how much of a difference that would make.

I have rancho 9000xl and so far so good, ordered the wireless controller kit and hopefully play around with the settings more. I have it at 5 and it is pretty good and firm except for choppy freeways. But it might has more to do with my ome springs as I have no extra weight on mine. One time I did load it with lots of weight it was quite smooth.

I have the tjm shocks. I think the settings are load dependant. I have mine set @ 4 front 3 rear. Theres a disclaimer saying the upper settings are for onroad use only.

2 questions:
Are the TJM's just rebranded Rancho's?
What are the compressed & extended length of the TJM's( or what's the travel length)?
Thanks!o

TJM's website show for the 80 only rear shocks in their adjustable line and they give no details other than "Suit 50mm lift".

On a multi-rate shock you get different valving for big and small bumps.
Are the adjustable's shocks TJM or Rancho shocks muilt-rate shocks or just adjustable?

Yes, their website sucks. Comparing Rancho's to TJM by looks alone I say they're not the same shock. They're shaped completely different! They do make front and rears, don't they??? Still wondering about lengths also. Looking to buy the TJM lift with adj. shocks but need to know lengths first, then to find the best price!

OK
Did anyone get the specs on the TJM 2.5" 50MM shocks?
compressed & extended
Do they come double studed for the 80?

I have the TJM Tiger gold adjustable shocks, with a 2.5 TJM lift, and I love them. They can be super soft riding or down right rigid and at full stiffness they will rattle your teeth on rough roads. (I live in Tahoe and most of the roads are full of pot holes.) I had them set on medium (4 clicks) for a trip on I80 across Nevada and Idaho and when I got to miles of twisty mountain roads I just crawled under and put them on high (9 clicks) and it took the sway out in the curves.
I do not believe they are the same shock as the Rancho. The 50mm piston is HUGE compared to the Rancho 9000s I looked at; and I believe they are valved for their springs.
I understand the Rancho in-truck controller works. The old school ones with lines to the shocks worked but are no longer available. The new, I believe, blue tooth, controller is nearly $700.00 and I can't justify that cost. I just put a dedicated under-truck blanket in the truck should i choose to adjust them on the road/trail. It takes longer to set up the blanket (to keep from getting my new Shane's leather dirty) then to turn the adjuster a few clicks.
The setting I find most comfortable on the road is 7-8 clicks in front with the weight of the motor the ride s not too bad and holds the truck fairly flat in curves. The rear on or near full is very rough for me so I have it in the middle range, 4 clicks, driving unless i have the truck loaded. Off road I back them way down and the ride is good even over wash board roads but the truck will sway a bit on the curves heading to the trails. The tune-ability of these socks is really valuable to me. It's not like a Porsche Cayenne with "Comfort-Normal-Sport" mode at the push of a button but crawling under the truck and five minutes will get you the same affect.
Could the adjuster get damaged off road? Probably but I think other parts would get damaged too on such a trail. Probably the bottom of the shock, adjustable or not, would get scraped up before the adjuster would but with the right rock I suppose anything could happen.
One more thing: I also got the steering stabilizer from TJM and it is down right burly compared to the OEM Toyota one and the steering wheel is very controlled on rutted trails BUT the steering wheel doesn't come back as quickly straight, on its own, when coming out of a turn as it did stock and you do need to steer it back straight slightly but you get use to it.

Thank you for the info I was realy happy with the original RS9000 5ways on my fj40.
Did anyone get specs on the TJM 2.5" 50MM shocks?
TJM-650ADJ180B front.
compressed & extended
Do they come double studed for the 80?

I have a set of 4 in the garage waiting on a free weekend

I just saw this and happen to have some measurements written down from when I did the lift. Here you go...

Front (650ADJ180B)
Collapsed = 16-5/8"
Extended = 26"
Travel = 9-3/8"

Rear (650ADJ280B)
Collapsed = 16-1/8"
Extended = 25"
Travel = 8-7/8"

Wow... finally answered after almost 3 years... do I get a prize? :smokin:

Love the shocks, typically run them on 4 or 5 in the front and 3 in the rear for daily driving. I take them all the way down to one when 4 wheeling and have on occasion bumped them up to around 6 or 7 for extra curvy paved roads. After I first installed them, maybe six months ago now, I cranked them up to 9 and drove it for a few hours on the highway, it was like driving an empty moving van. Extremely stiff and uncomfortable, still not sure a need would ever arise for them to be turned up that high on an 80. But that's the range you get out of them, from very loose and soft with a lot of body roll to extremely firm with very minimal body roll. So far very happy with them and would recommend them to anyone looking to tune their suspension.
