Title from a deceased FJ40?

Hi all,

I am looking into a trade with timmbuck2, my FJ62 for his 68 FJ40 that's up for sale. He doesn't have a title for the truck and I am wondering if there are any floating around out there that I might be able to attach to this beast.

That is dicey at best. Apply for a lost title. There are places, like commercial endeavours that will do that, I think.

If it's not shady/stolen, you should be able to apply for a replacement title. Make sure the frame VIN matches the door tag.

I've never dealt with a vehicle without a title before so I just want to do it right, and get it done with the least amount of hassle / cost

You really don't want to try the "replacement" title here in Colo. it's a felony IIRC.

depending where you are getting a new title is not that hard...here in NC, they have to check and see if they have an old one on hand in the state...if not you buy title insurance, they check the vin and you get a new title. If they do have one in the state they mail something to the last know address and I think if there is nothing with 30 days its yours. Easy process if the current owner knows who had teh title previously.
