He's got a list running at the bottom of Post #2.

Thanks. I'm to impatient to let threads load on my phone.

Glad to see you guys are getting the same friendly, willing to help, customer service oriented Duncan we have been telling you about....and hope that you see his product really is that good especially for the money.

Pricing good till Oct 20th - Get your orders in!!!

anyone have an idea of its duty cycle?

Nope but I will put that on the list of questions for the call tomorrow!

Will they ship to Australia? How can we get hold of the supplier from overseas?

I'll find out for you.

Paul,

You might want to post this in the Winching and Recovery forum too as it would benefit other Land Cruiser series owners also...

Dan

Great idea! I have a couple PMs going with the mods over how to handle it.

Will it fit a ARB for a Series 80 cruiser? If so I'm in for one.

I am 95% sure that it will fit. Can you fit a M8000 on your bumper? If the answer is yes, then the answer is yes. Let me know for sure and I'll add you to the list.

Got some higher res pics from Duncan today but I have a couple questions about them before I post. I want to make sure that I know what I am talking about before I get a bunch of questions from you guys!

Here is a reply that I got from Duncan when I asked him about the duty cycle and the specs of the sabre/ comparison. I e-mailed him this morning and got a great and informative reply buy this afternoon.

Hi Ryan
A series wound motor id dependant on amp output and is designed for intermittent use only. When any independent testing is done on any 12v Series wound Winch ( Most better models are designed this way and not the cheaper Permanent magnet motor) the longest they are normally run is about 90 seconds ( Under heavy load drawing high amps) and then stopped for a short time to cool down. This is actually the correct way to use them ,although having said this it is seldom that any one does this as they tend to only stop once the recovery is done.
There are just too many variables for giving a actual running time for a Winch . Please keep in mind the size and condition of your Battery also needs to be taken into account . your motor can run hotter / weaker with a substandard Battery and in some cases if your battery is really bad the Winch will not run at all.
A no load amp draw on even a 8000lb winch is 80 amps ( average )
On long pulls I tend to stop and reposition the line or myself so I do not really exceed the 1.5 mins of pulling and on really heavy pulls I will stop after 1 minute . The winch tells me what is hard and what is light just by listening to it.

As for specs the 187.2 gear ratio gives for a fairly decent line speed under no load but where it really shows its strength is under load .
Even though the same seals are used in both the TW12 and Sabre and there is no difference, the original TW12 has a better fitment and is sealed tighter than the Sabre in both the motor and the gear box. The Sabre is technologically more advanced than the TW12 or a lot of other Winches if it comes to that but sometimes having too much is not necessarily the best thing. As for Reliability I feel the Sabre will not perform as well as the TW12 has done over the years.
The Sabre will have reliability but it will need to be maintained whereas The TW12 just keeps on going with very little maintenance. In fact with the TW just run it once or twice a month and it is happy.
A lot has to do with the better sealing designs that we have in the TW12 that are just not possible for the Sabre and as moisture is my biggest concern I have to say the TW is the better option in the long run.
One last point on Heating. I had a Customer a couple of years ago that was stuck on his land during Winter and winched for over 1 hour to get through the snow drifts. He was able to do this by packing snow on the motor to cool it down as he kept winching > This is something that is not recommended in the least as it is hard on both the battery / alternator and winch motor but he was very happy with the performance under very extended periods of winching.
Cheers
Duncan

so, no issue at all with US customs?

Glad you posted that Shaggy. I was in the middle of trying to figure out how best to put what he told me into words.

UPDATE:

Post #1 updated with pictures and more in-depth descriptions and specs sourced through emails and telephone conversations with Duncan.

Based on the final charge on my CC, I would say the shipping estimate they gave me via phone of $110 CAD was high. I got charged less, my guess is they ball parked it with steel line and not synthetic. Once the winch arrives I will verify on the invoice and post for others to know in the PNW area what to expect.

I'm guessing the winch will arrive by end of next week. I have to work that coming weekend so not sure how long it will be before getting the winch installed.

Yes, 1 year electrical and 2 years mechanical

Well, i was on the fence about getting the 12K with synthetic as i have a few other things i was wanting to purchase, but since their is a group buy, guess i gotta, haha.

Put me down for one Paul.
I checked, but did not see:
What is the weight with synthetic and with steel? (just trying to see how much extra weight and what kind of savings with syn)

Do i just need to call Duncan to take care of everything?

I remember reading ( i think Brock) that he had some kind of weird issue with customs. Is anyone else experiencing this?!?

What the hell. I am in. Add me to the list. Ordering on Monday.

not really weird....but a delay...I had to pay $30 to a customs broker for my first one in 2008. The most recent one I bought this past year I did not have to pay anything...Matter of fact I was waiting on the call from the customs broker and it showed up at my door via Fed Ex...LOL

I would not worry....

I have it in my Sahara bumper. Fits with zero issues.

This is something that i was wondering about. It may fit, but is the bumper designed to be strong enough and support something with that pulling power? The sahara bumper will work with a m8000 i believe also a 9000 lb warn, but this is a 12000lb.

The ARB USA site lists a Warn M12000 on the optional parts page for the Sahara bull bar.

I saw that, but are the bumpers made of equal strength? Or is it just a size/space issue? hmmm.... Time to contact arb.

Is the ARB sahara for the 100 Series the same strength as the sahara that BBQ has?...I am not following you. Perhaps your are over-thinking this a little?

Would you actually pull more weight with a 12,000 pound winch, compared to a 8 or 9,000? Your truck is going to be the same, in the same situation, regardless. But the 12,000 won't have to work as hard, and should theoretically last longer, by not having to operate close to its max all the time. Think of it as upgrading your door speakers- you can still benefit from better sound quality at lower volumes, better speakers doesn't mean you're going to crank the stereo all the time. I wouldn't let ARB bumper design get in the way of a 12,000 vs. 8,000 winch decision, they both fit. :meh:

I think he is saying, what if you are 11,900 lbs stuck in a 6500 lb vehicle (due to mud, etc)?

Yes, the winch will pull more than the weight of just the vehicle and the bumper can handle it.
