Been talking to Duncan at Titan Offroad Recovery Gear over the last couple of days and he has agreed to letting us do a group buy on a very well-built TW-12 12,000 lbs. winch package.

You can check out Titan winches here: Titan Offroad Recovery Gear (Powered by CubeCart)

Here are the specifics

Package:

Winch
-Single Line Rated Pull------12,000 LB.
-Motor-------------------------6.6 HP, Bi-Directional, Series wound
-Control-----------------------12 ft. corded remote (removable) & wireless remote
-Gear Train--------------------3 stage planetary
-Gear Reduction Ratio-------187.2:1
-Clutch------------------------Sliding ring gear
-Free-spooling---------------Yes
-Braking Action--------------Automatic in-the-drum
-Drum size-------------------Diameter 2.52", length 8.82"
-Battery----------------------Recommended: 12 Volt 650 CCA
-Battery Leads--------------2 gauge, 72"
-Finish------------------------Silver
-Overall Dimensions--------(LxWxH) 21.3" x 6.3" x 8.6"
-Power In / Power Out------Yes
-Line speed

Interesting fact: The TW12 has a slightly larger footprint than an m8000 meaning that you can fit it into a lot more bumpers but still get a very powerful 12,000 lb winch.

Line
-Dyneema (Dyneema Home) 86’-0” of 3/8” 12 STRAND SKF75

For reference, Amsteel Blue is a Dyneema SK75 (Amsteel Blue Synthetic Rope)
Here is some more info on the Dyneema line: Dyneema
Also, just found out that Duncan builds his own lines as he is not satisfied with the current offerings.

Remotes
-Corded
-Wireless remote with detachable wireless receiver that can be stored in-cabin when not in use.

Fairhead
-Aluminum

Misc
-Locking Safety hook
-Tube thimble
-Rock Guard
-Heat sleeve

Bonus
-Tire deflators!

New changes for 2011:

-New solenoid is even more reliable than the older Titan solenoids (which in their own right were extremely reliable). The new Thompson is a heavier style solenoid with a 550amps rating and very well sealed.
-Solenoid is easier to relocate if it needs to be placed under the hood etc. The mounting plate tabs on the bottom are formed as one piece with the base so it has no openings for water.
-Solenoid now includes rubber plugs added to screw heads that hold the pods together. Plugs further assist in keeping moisture out.
-End cap bolts are now fed from the winch foot side and threaded into the end cap, as this eliminates the bolt holes that are normally found for securing the ends to motors thus eliminating a potential water problem.
-Twin lipped rubber seals ( 4”) for both the gear box and motor as opposed to single lip seals found in other leading winches.
-Gear box grease is synthetic blend combining a Netherlands syn with a domestic syn.
-Brake has also been improved for this year.
-Improved sliding ring gear.
-Clutch engagement is now 100% every time (no need to wiggle drum to engage gear) .
-Tie bars use a stainless steel sleeve to protect against the elements.
-Uses bearing for sun gear in place of brass bushing in shaft gear used by other winch manufacturers.
-Uses graphite composite bushings in place of plastic bushings found in other brands
-Finish on the unit has also been improved.
-Receiver for the wireless remote now plugs in and can be stored in-vehicle when not in use in order to protect it from the elements.
-Safety shut-off coupling on hot lead requires just a 1/4 turn to completely cut power to winch in an emergency situation.
-Note: Seals, etc. have not been changed but in reality there is very little that can be done to improve them.

Solenoid (Thompson 550 Amps) - Extremely robust and watertight. This is the piece that traditionally causes the most issues with other winches. Duncan made a point of describing the solenoid as highly over-rated for the workload it will encounter mated to the TW-12. The three screws you see at the bottom are the low voltage controls that run to the remote female connection on the solenoid cover. They are easily serviceable and child's play to understand.

2.JPG

Solenoid box (bottom) - Here is an upside down view of the molded solenoid box. It has been crafted as to reduce the number of openings that would allow moisture to come in contact with the solenoid. Some Manufacturers like to have some air flow designed into their solenoid boxes because their duty cycles and ratings are not overly high and airflow helps dissipate heat. The trade off for this is more water attacking the solenoid. The Titan (Thompson) solenoid is a great deal over rated for the TW-12 application and therefore heat is not an issue (and it can be sealed up better against the elements). The solenoid box has also been designed for the user who chooses to relocate their solenoid (engine bay). Titan sells an extension kit for those needing additional cable length for their specific solenoid mounting preferences.

Solenoid box (back) - Rubber boots are included for the leads running into the solenoid box which improves water resistance. Some have chosen to run a bead of automotive GOOP around the back plate in order to make the unit completely water proof.

Line attachment bracket - Innovative with attention to detail! You could attach your synthetic line with duct tape like a lot of people do but Titan was one step ahead and fabricated a nifty little bracket for attaching the Dyneema line to the drum. This bracket also ensures that there are no sharp points that can cut into the subsequent line wraps.

Add me as confirmed. I will call Duncan tomorrow AM. Thanks for pulling this together.

Do we know anything about the fitment of these with the various aftermarket bumpers? Def interested at this price point.

No prob...I got your other PM too and will be answering you shortly.

What do you want to put it on? I have a TJM T-15 with the winch plate and Duncan said it would fit. I'm pretty sure the TJM winch plate is one of the smaller areas on which to mount a 12,000 lb winch!

This is a great deal guys! The synthetic line alone would run you about $200. You never see that stuff on sale.

G** F***ing D****t Paul, stop putting together these great deals when I'm broke as hell. Its not cool. :p

How long is the deal valid for? A winch could be considered part of the required bug out gear for my rig since its considered the family Zombie Outbreak Response Vehicle, but headers just killed my budget for a long, long while.

Confirmed, I will call tomorrow AM and place an order. That's half way there on the first day!

I'm going to go ahead and order all my recovery gear while at it. Titan has good prices on the rest needed like winch extension, snatch block, snap strap, etc.

C'mon Fuzz...Pull an ity-bity-bit out of your 401K. You'll thank me when the zombies make it out to CO.

Everyone else...PRICE DROP!!!...I got the numbers wrong. It was supposed to be $580 Canadian which equals $560 and change is US currency.

$560?!?!....You've got to be CRAZY?!?!

Wow. i was looking into these actually. If i'm not mistaken, these have the same footprint as the m8000 right? I'm going to call duncan on friday to confirm some things. I'm more than 50% on this one.

You're killin me, Francis.

Titan TW12
(LxWxH) 21.3" x 6.3" x 8.6"

Warn M8000
(LxWxH) 21.0" x 6.3" x 7.6"

Looks like the Titan is just a hair longer and an inch taller, but otherwise roughly the same footprint.

Every winch has the same 10.0" x 4.5" bolt pattern.

You're killin me, Francis.

DON'T...call me Francis!

Here is the link to a thread showing the guts of a Titan compared to a Warn. Someone on the other current winch thread wanted to see it.

I want in but I need to make it after the 10th. As that is the wife's bday.

Great comparison though. I am just about SOLD!

You mean you're not going to get the winch for her for her birthday?! I suppose she wants a silly vacuum cleaner or a washer and dryer instead?

:D

pm and I am in!

Thanks in advance Paul. I'll call/email duncan tomorrow to see what price I can get it for without the synthetic line! Putting off the rear shocks for a little while longer

OK gosh I'm in. I guess it's time to practice with saying 'eh' and eating more chow mein. Too good of a deal to pass up, eh? Ya sure ya betcha! Geeze. Now where's my chopsticks?

Edit: isn't it a TW12? :flipoff2: Good job on the group buy Pauly! That saves about $800 toward a rear bumper. Or toward a stereo head if you talk to re_guderian. :)
