I have a 73 FJ40 with no suspension modifications from stock. How tall of a tire can I run without interference? Reading and looking, I like the BFG MT2's and appear to be well received from others.

I hear 33x9.5 fits..

31x10.5s fit for sure, although at full left lock with the right wheel stuffed up a bit it can rub on the center arm. I'd be a little surprised if 33's fit with no issues, but would be interested to hear...

How tall is the p235 75R15's compared to the 31's? I don't plan to do major wheeling with it, but still want to have a little fun with lower rpm's on the highway.

Those are tiny, only 29's or so. Hard to see the point, you're not getting any rubber overdrive from those.

I've only heard my 31s rub once, for all intents and purposes they "fit". If you went with 31x9.5's you'd have no issues at all - I kinda wish I got narrower ones just cuz they look better on a cruiser. Someone should really chime in about any little issues with 33x9.5s, cuz that'd be ideal IMO...

i have a 69 with stock, 40y/o suspension that is almost completely flat. i just put a pair of 34x10.5 LTBs on it, nothing serious but if you are planning any off-roading you WILL need some clearance.

I run 33 x 9.50's with old stock suspension on my 45. They don't ever rub. No major off-road though. Hope that helps.

Guys, I greatly appreciate the help. I'm in central Illinois so no serious off road is in the area. Great site!

Hey Muskie, where do you live? You know about the Indy Badlands at Attica don't you? Its' about 20 miles east of the state line and 10-15 miles north of I74. I live in Urbana and it's just over an hour from here (in my FJ40). I haven't been over for a year or two as I've been working on my rig but I hope to make up for lost time this winter/next spring. The trails are mild to wild with mud and rocks too. You guys out west, don't laugh!

Shoot me a PM or email if you're anywhere around Urbana and I'll let you know when some buddies and I will be heading over to Attica. If you're up for a little longer trip (5 hrs +/-) Land Between the Lakes, KY has a great off-road park. I'm planning to go there the day after Thanksgiving.
