I was little afraid to go with SS .. I like drive my Cruiser .. wound town on weekend or been able to take a long weekend trip to the beach ..

Tha's the reason to choose MT tire .. and for those heavy trails I use chains ..

I siped the 36" SX's on my 40 and have had no "chunking" issues. I only siped the middle section and only had them siped to 1/2 of the depth.

interesting idea then once that is depleted i could sipe the last half....

it would be like having new tires again!

IROKs do really well out here on the east coast, they are the tire du jour of my group. The SXs seem to do well also, but the iroks get a lot stickier when you start roasting them.

Honestly I think Iroks work really well here in the PNW too. They really good in sand, snow, ice, mud, rocks, etc. Krawlers and Creepers work really well as long as its dry... that goes out the window as soon as mud and water get on the rocks... that's where the Iroks seem to do better.

ok so to bring this back i just visited interco's website and they are coming out with a few new tires.... couple of which will be available in february of this year... In the LTB....

so how do yall like the LTB's? ive heard great things.

now im torn between the LTB's and the SX's 35x12.50-15 LTB and 36x12.50-15 SX.

yea but im sure in the 35" varation the prices will be near the same...

CruisinFJ60 heres my experience on the amount of lift you get on a SOA. My expirience with my SOA on stock springs. I have had the TSL Swamper on a toyota pickup. They had horid road noise but rooted pretty good also had average Swamper street wear. I currently have TrXus MT Swamper. They ride great on the road and do well off road. A good bias ply swamper will beat them but they are my best bet at this point.

I've had the 36x13.5 Bias Iroks for about three years. I cut a side wall and ruined one the first year. Bought two and cycled one to the spare. The side wall cut was due to low air pressure. I should have been running more air but I wasn't accustomed to airing down bias ply tires. The sidewalls don't bulge when sitting on level ground.

However, when the heavily loaded wagon has almost all it's weight on one wheel, and that wheel is crawling over a large boulder, the tire easily flattened out, folded under and the razor sharp rock rashed rim sliced it like butter. Lesson learned.

I've since been running higher air pressure AND checking them more often when on the trail. No more folding over. I've even experimented with still higher pressure ~ 18psi last year. Not as much traction but noticeable increase in diff clearance believe it or not.

All in all the iroks are awesome off road. Mine are mounted on 10-inch rims and look "balloonish" like a cartoon. They rub a little more and are closer to the leaf spring when turning. It isn't a bad thing off road but I don't think it helps on the highway.

They definitely "melt" on the highway. My 60 is used mostly off-road but it's no trailer queen. I'll swear I can see the wear while driving 400 miles to the Rubicon (and another 400 miles back home.) I should measure it or keep track but it's enough to know they wear out VERY FAST. They are the cheapest of the comparible choices.

A week on the Rubicon is my favorite type of trip and my 60 is built for it. Fully loaded for a week on the trail I'm over 6,000 lbs. That's some serious weight. The trail itself has plenty of sharp rocks and wet roots. My flats have always been sidewalls. Strong sidewalls may be the most important feature when rock crawling a big heavy truck. The Iroks are working well and much better than the MTR's I've used in the past.

But, the noise and handling suck on the road. I've found they are VERY sensitive to tire pressure on the road. And agree that keeping them at max pressure helps wear and handling. Lighter rigs undoubtedly get better mileage on road, but my wagon eats them up.

Such is the dilema. I need tires this year and I'm considering all the options presented in this thread. What's a guy to do?

My current plan is 38.5x12.5 SXs with some fender trimming. I always wanted tall skinny pizza cutters.

thats soem great info there. goin to roundup will be over 400 miles of street and then goin to moab i beleive is around 800-1000 just 1 way so she does get driven and it sounds like the SX's are my better bet over the IROKS
kinda currious how the LTB's do in the rocks and how they last. (asuming price is still nice and low)
