So, can anybody recommend a class E (or close) tire that is 31''x10''(or less) R16?

Still having a hard time finding one that will work. Those Narrow S.S. would be great but they're 34''.

I'll chime in with a vote for Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac in 235/85R16. Just under 32" x 9.4". Not any noisier than my BFG AT, better in snow and wet roads and I think will remain better as tread wears. So far I have about 12,000km. They seem to be holding up but give me another 60,000 to be sure. Reasonably priced as well. Common size, sidewall protection. Studs if you want them.

Cheers

kid here is running the duratrac and he is very happy with them. i have watched them perform in snow, mud, hard packed but they do ... suck? ... on ice (but then they are not a true ice radial), they are realy quiet, narrow, tall and seem strong.
i would be tempted to try them myself.

Just picked up 2 STA Superlugs. They are one mean looking tire. 8 ply, 4 in the sidewall and 4 in the tread. Load range D. Though they are bias and tall at 36.3", which is great for what I want. I have heard good things about the Duratracs.

Tall and skinny

Has anyone out there seen any other vendors that have a tall and skinny tire for a 15"rim?

I have 33 12.50.15 on my FJ60 and really want to get somehting a little skinnier. I can only find BFG as a source for a AT in 33 9.50 15 or MT 33 10.5 15 .

I really can't afford to buy six new 16 rims.

Thanks

Awesome. Please report back with your thoughts when you get them mounted. Where did you buy them?

Toyo has a 33X10.50 mt.

I don't have a lot to add here but I have had BFG All Terrains in a size 33x10.5x15 on order since December. I have called several times on these tires and the production date keeps moving....it is now April 4th. I really like these tires but it looks like I'm going to need to go with a different brand.

Frustrating.

It seems that 16s are the way to go if you want tall and skinnies. The plus side is that the 16" tires are in load rang E compared to the lower offerings in 15" tires. The down side is that those with older rigs with 15s need to get wheels and tires big$ if you get both at the same time.

remember you can get poverty rims for pretty cheap that are actually decent rims ...
so 16" rims will add a bit to the initial price but with the new found range of tires it does make sense to invest.

crusher is right. I picked up 4 16" alloy rims off a Tundra/Tacoma off Craig's List for $100.00. That's $25.00 a piece for a Toyota alloy rim. Pretty cheap in my mind.

My skinny STA's mounted on them.

Cost? Could you mount these on stock 80 rims? I know they suggest a 6.5" rim, but anyone have input on mounting them on 8" rims?

Tall and Skinny

I want steel wheels because they look a hell of lot better than those alloy rims. Steel will also take a bit more abuse than the alloy in the rocks. I can hammer, file and spray paint steel wheels.

alloy rim after driving 9 km back out of the bush over rocks, logs and gravel

just to show expensive alloy doesn't "bust" but bends. yah, the rim was fawked but it got me out. flat tire, no spare, 9 km in, fawking cold, all Land Cruisers on the run, only jeep.
it was fun to watch as the tire would dismount on the outside, walk till the inner sidewall touched then proceed to go all the way back in, dismount on the inside, remount on the outside and back and forth it went.
i have to admit this trip changed my view of alloy rims.

but

each to their own, i run alloy, i run steel. what ever is on the truck is fine with me.

those cheap steelies work very well.

Wow, that is messed up! Thankfully you got out...whew.

When my stock Michelin tires on my LX wear out (sheesh, these things last forever!), I will be going with Toyo M-55 255/85R16 E10 or Toyo Open Country M/T 255/85R16 E10 tires on my stock 16 rims. I will be driving down to South America on these, so I am leaning towards the M-55 at this point...but boy are they expensive!

just put a set of 6 on order for the troopy build, supposed to be ready for pickup end of next week.:D
will see if these fit the stock splits. :hhmm:
:bounce:wicked price and order tubes, liners and tires.
goin to look HORNY!!:steer:
thanks for the link.
9.00x16 at just a bit over 36". Narrow at about 9" in tread width. Bias ply, but that works for me. will be looking to mount on a 7" wide rim.
