I have an 84 FJ60 that I just put 285/70r17 BFG Mud Terrains/17" Sequoia wheels on. I'll try to post before/after pictures tomorrow. I read on here that the tires equate to 32.7X11.2r17. I put 3" shackles at all four corners and 1 1/2" add-a-leafs in the front. The first little hill I tried to drive up, the tires rubbed like hell. Do I need even more lift for these tires or is it a backspacing issue or what can I do to fix this? I don't have any intentions of super hardcore wheeling but I would like for it to be able to get around okay when I go camping.

It would not be a backspacing issue unless you can visibly see the tire or wheel rubbing on something, like the brake caliper, tie rod end, etc.

You may think about putting in a body lift.

There is a backspacing issue w/ the 16 & 17" IFS Toyo wheels on a solid axle. They will bolt onto a solid axle truck but the backspacing is considerably higher than what would normally fit. Because of the increased rim diameter, the wheel lip is now in front of/wrapped around the tie rod end. If a 15" wheel w/ 5" of BS was attempted, the balance weights would run right into the tierod.

So the vehicle in question has a relatively wide tire under it, but all the xtra width is under the truck, not sticking out of the fenderwell. The tires are probably rubbing inside the rear wheelwell, and rubbing the bottom front edge of the front fenderwell, especially when turning. The only fix is adequate wheelspacer to get the centerline of the tire approx lined up w/ the axle wheel mounting surface.
i.e. if it is a 17X7 wheel w/ 5" BS, it will fit better w/ 3.5" BS, so a 1.5" spacer is indicated.

HTH?

I'm running 17 FJCruiser wheels and the rub. A 1/4" spacer solved my problem.

The back isn't rubbing at all. The front doesn't rub at all during turning. The only rubbing issue I had was when I attempted to climb a hill.

look around the vendor section for em. its best to have a look in the wheel well to see where the tires are leaving a bit of rubber, then figure out if its because they are too close to the frame rails (spacers needed) or if its just not lifted enough. if you are flexing it out pretty good, lowering bumpstops can help in some situations. post some pics id like to see your rig on 17's.

Before/After Pics

After more driving, I have learned it is rubbing in sharp turns as well but I can't tell where it is rubbing AT. Here are the before and after pics:

I don't know why these pictures aren't working but you can see them at MySpace.com - LandCrusher - 39 - Male - PUEBLO WEST, Colorado - www.myspace.com/landcrushers too.

You should be able to simulate these driving conditions in your driveway pretty well. Use a floor jack to flex it out, then do that with the wheels cranked. Mine rub on the inner well at full crank full articulation. Can articulate with wheels straight just fine. 33x10.5x15. 1/4 inch spacers. No lift, I will also be going the shackle, add-a-leaf, and probably a 1" body lift to get it up a little.

rubbing at sharp turns is most likely hitting on your leaf springs up front.

my truck rubbed the front leafs on 35's and a 5" lift with 15x8's with 3.75" BS now with the 2.5" all around they dont touch anymore. untill flexed real nice and tight into the fenders.

The thickest I can find is 2" spacers. Where did you find 2.5"?

no im not running any spacers im running a reverse offset 2.5" back space wheel.
sorry for the confusion.
