Had the lift for about 12 years. Pulling it into the shop this winter for new spring bushings, tie rods, etc. I'm sure the shocks could use a replacement. They are the original Nitro chargers that came with the Mojave lift (4") from Manefre.

Was wondering if anyone had any direct replacement suggestions for the OME's. Maybe something to offer a little gentler ride?

Thanks for any suggestions.

I should also add, if anyone has a good idea for either an add a leaf, or a leaf replacement of some kind for the rear springs. They have sagged a bit over the years and the rig has a big of an uphill rake, especially when loaded

Thanks

Big name high performance off-road shocks always ride stiff. They’re designed for driving at high speed on rough dirt roads.

My recommendation is to measure the shock travel distance you require, then get standard shocks like Monroe or something.
4” lifted springs definitely need extended body bump stops. Otherwise the longer shocks will break the shock mounts.

Add a leafs make the spring rate even more harsh & it’s asking one leaf to do more work than the others. It’s not a long term solution.

Thanks OSS. Will measure the travel distance when I have everything apart. Any ideas on a whole spring replacement?

This is the shackle reversal system right? I think that’s what Manafre calls the Mojave 4”. Maybe I’m wrong.

I had the full OME kit before with the Nitro shocks. I’m now fully Dobinson with IMS shocks. I daily drive my 60, go on long highway trips, and go wheeling here in Colorado quite a bit. They’re night and day better than the OME in my opinion. If you’re in this for a whole new suspension setup, I’d strongly consider Dobinson.

Thanks yes it is with the reversal. Its mainly on off roader. The current lift has definitely seen its share of abuse over the years. I will look into the Dobinson. It might be worth waiting and doing a whole new suspension.

Two SR threads going in one day, what are the chances? I suggest finding off-label springs and shocks. Everything needs to be longer. Longer leaf springs (1-3”) and longer shocks.

^^This.
I went with the Dobinsons remote reservoir system and am very happy. Don't know what you budget is but Dobinsons has different options that would hopefully meet your price range.

I see they only offer a 2" on their site, could they put something together that could get me the 4"? I wouldn't want to lose any clearance. And budget wise, I don't know, I don't' need to invest more than 5k into this old thing suspension wise as its not that nice of a rig anymore.

The OME fronts for an 80 series, 4" lift , worked.
My Mohaves were the first set. 2009 or 10. I wore them out then had Alcan knock them off for me last year
Thanks Wiz, would I just send them one or both of my rears to have them replicated?

I purchased mine from @TRAIL TAILOR . Jason might be able to assist you here regarding this technical question.

Cheers, James

@kfa670 @lcwizard I'm confused - are we still talking leaf springs? Or did we somehow get into coils?

@kfa670 The shackle reversal plate and shackle provide a couple inches of lift. Add 2" of lift from the springs and you have a total of four. You're not losing any. I strongly suggest you look for leaf springs that are longer than stock. There are some off-the-shelf solutions out there. LCWizard I think had his custom sized from Alcan and that's a great way to go too - they'll make anything you want. Search some of the other shackle reversal threads on the forum. There's a lot of knowledge here.

The Mohaves are leaf packs. I was referring to the front shock. It was harder to find a compatible front shock with the top post/bottom eye
layout. The rear shocks are eyelet/eyelet. There are quite a few options for that
