Hello Everyone RON here. I have been a tire man for over 20 years.
Forklift press-on,car.truck,earthmover,...everything.
GEORGE is %100 on with REMA.
What you want is the all rubber "bow tie" off road plugs "OTR". They come in 2 sizes. You want the smaller of the two.
BL glue
12" insertion tool [this is a MUST have item for bow ties}
regular reemer.
The ROPE plugs by law have to be listed as TEMP repair.
They have a use.
The tar is a glue and it is also embedded into the rope fibers. If it did not,the rope will/could become a WICK.
The wick will draw water into the steel belts. Rust will start and you have a chance of ply separation.
The OTR plugs can be used to fill LARGE holes as well as nail holes [i would use the all rubber type of "string"
plugs and BL glue.
The all rubber[live rubber] repairs are what you want. It SEALS the tire. Also when you get to a repair shop or home
you dismount the tire. cut off the inside of plug, buffet lightly, add BL glue, apply a REMA reinforced patch, roll it with a stitcher
and you have a pro repaired tire.
These bow ties will get you out off the trail. Even if its a sidewall[very temp] and the tire is garbage anyhow if used on the street.
NOW if you are really tight on cash. You can get a 24" SKINNY 'O-ring' at a tire place that fixes large equipment tires or internet.
They can be cut into plugs also. Used it fine and free.
The ONLY real way of repairing a tire is from the inside out.
Getting off the trail is one thing
A street tire has rules for a reason
Has everyone seen the starting fluid trick for seating the bead?
Cheers everyone.
