Well, I think I just learned something new...

The first picture shows the brackets I have seen before...and the second picture looks as smooth as yours...pretty cool :steer:

couple of things with that second picture that don't say "factory" though, namely the paint and doors

I know, but it does have the same finish where the hinges should be...just never seen one finished like that before...

The early fixed windshield no plates is factory,I have seen 2 or 3 over the years, very low numbers produced. Not sure why they did that, maybe because the tops didnt come off?Lots of little cool mysterys with these early fj's.

The under side of my bed has the same three holed flange with threaded holes on both sides above shocks. and the thing in the center back. this is where the spare tire was originally?? Is this right or should I mount the swing out carrier on pass side of the bed. I would like to get it right if possible??

Does your frame have that vin # or are you going by the vin tag? You have a later frame with an early body as they did not get the under frame mounted spare until 64.Lets see the frame #!

centered rear diff, another early 45 clue, very curious now about your frame vin# never seen an early 45 with the under frame spare mounts!

Do you think it is a frame swap? I was going to say maybe a late '63 with the new spare tire configuration under the bed....just about when the '64s started, but then when would the fixed windshield frame have come in...on the very early '63s? If so, then that would rule out a late '63 with the '64 configuration being fazed in.

As we know, not uncommon for Toyota to use up old stock, or introduce new stock with the early rigs...many early 40s had lots of FJ25 carry over, so that is the reasoning behind my later '63 with newer frame idea...

Wow , I don't know how that early vin could have an underneath tire carrier? I now think someone did a frame swap and transferred the front frame horn? Unless it sat around at the factory for a year or two and then got put together? You really don't know what was going in back then, but anything is possible!

I really like the tire carrier on the back of the bed. I think I might go that way even if it wasn't factory!??

It is your rig, and there are already a few little mods, so if this makes you happy, I say go for it
