So, changed out the Timing Belt today. Got the Aisin kit, 177$ on Amazon- same day shipping!
Glad I did the belt when I did, the small section of TB I saw under the TB Cover was only the tip of the iceberg- the other sections of belt were frayed badly and chunks of the backing were missing. "Hairs" from the frayed belt had started to collect under the TB Cover and it looked ROUGH.
To Toyota's credit, the TB/WaterPump and pulleys made it through TWO cycles of maintenance before being changed without breaking or causing major issues.
At the end of the day, the noise I have been chasing for weeks now was actually the :
..Fan Bracket Bearing.
The Idler Pulley sits right on the top of that bracket, so the "stethescope" test revealed noise being transferred from the Fan Bracket, through the Idler Pulley. While the TB definitely needed to be addressed, the Waterpump was in good operating order and the offensive noise was the bad fan bracket.
She's whisper quiet now, with a new Tensioner Assembly, Idler Pulley, Serpentine Belt, Timing Belt Kit, and Fan Bracket.
