ordered...thanks for the deal and efforts you put into this
Arrived yesterday. Work has been keeping me too busy to give it a try, but it looks great. Looking forward to trying it out later this week.
I'm glad the grey is a good match. It's really hit and miss with that color. It really depends on how faded your gray is. A medium amount of fading and it will be a perfect match. If it's been sitting outdoors in direct sunlight it's entire life then the paint it too dark. If it's a 97 that has been garaged it's entire life then the paint is too light. The tan "oak" doesn't fade so it was an easy match. the gray has been a real pita. The original gray I used was an exact match to the piece I had which was from the rear seat bottom seat belt bolt cover. It NEVER sees sun light so it pretty much an exact match to the original color. That color had a lot of complaints for not matching yet it was a perfect match to anything not faded. I eventually found a REALLY faded piece and saw the full spectrum. I them found a shade of gray that was right in the middle of the two and the complaints have almost stopped completely. I do my best to match as close as I can, but when things fade over time it becomes VERY difficult.Mine arrived a couple of days ago. Fit's like a glove in my 91 and the grey is spot on. Thanks for making these.
It may have some structural issues if you do that. You are pushing it down into that square hole with some force. If both sides are missing then it will probably crack. Are you trying to fit the Iphone 6 plus in there? You may want to see if it will fit with nothing in the square hole. If it's wider than the hole then cutting the edge off the insert wont do you any good. Cutting the one side off will only gain you 1/8" max. Most phones I looked at were within the width needed and the few that didn't fit were already wider than the square hole. I never found a phone that would fit in the square hole but not fit in the phone holder. If there is a phone that is within that 1/8" difference I would really like to know what that phone is so I can pass that info on to folks. My gigantic iPhone phablet with case does not fit in very well. Could I cut the other side of the phone holder slot to make it bigger? If so would a dremel work?
I was surprised it took me so long to come up with such a simple solution. For the folks who get one of this delivered in the next few days. I could really use some pics of the new version installed and in use so I can update my site again. I no longer own the 80 so I can't take pics of the new design installed. All I have is the console.Simple but great idea!
I should add that although this new slot can allow for a drink with a handle to slide down in there, this option is not the most functional. About 1/3 of my coffee cups were narrow enough at the bottom with a narrow enough handle to slide down into the cup holder. The other 2/3rds either had too big of a handle, too big of a bottom, or both. Our travel mug with handle fit down in there really nicely as well. It just depends on the shape of the cup. I'm sure if you are a huge coffee drinker, you could easily find a coffee cup that was narrow at the bottom with a narrow handle to work for you. A wallet has a similar situation. If you carry a ton of crap in your wallet then it may not fit down in there. I carry quite a bit of stuff in my wallet and mine fits, so I would assume most wallets will fit without issue. You may have to cram it down in there.
You would come out with this just after I order the previous one. Like Apple, you hold back just enough to keep the demand upI was surprised it took me so long to come up with such a simple solution. The paint I use which is an exact match to the factory oak color is the rustoleum "texture bronze". I get it at home depot by the case. It's about $5-6 a can.By the way. I like the new design. Might have to take a Dremel to mine. What color paint is that you use if it needs a touch up? Oak interior.
Also thinking about a small mod to run a usb charging cable in that general area or thru the center console to clean up the gear shift area.
PM coming. That cup looks 3d printed and I have a printer. If you could sell just the cad info so that I could print it. I wouldnt print it for anyone else Im just curious if I could save a few bucks haha
