Hey Mud,

I finally had some time today to get under the truck and think I have pinpointed my "clunk" caused by going over small bumps and cracks. After poking and prodding around I discovered that there is a substantial amount of "in and out" lateral movement where my passenger side axle meets the hub can anyone give me a better idea of what is going on or where to start with this repair? I will include the link for the video of what I am up against. (excuse the crusty rusty mess)

Pop the dust cap off the drive flange, and look at the snap ring and its groove. For starters.

Check your snap ring gap, its almost certainly off, but that isn't causing a clunk going over bumps.

Looks to be like there may be some play but sounds like it is stopping. Definitely pop dust cap and check gap on the snap ring.
Check backlash of the axle to see if the hub flanges are worn.
Check ball joints to see if they are worn and may be giving you that clunk when they only have slight movement.
Plenty of vids on YouTube to test/check stuff like this, so I won't go into details. Let us know what you find.

After some further poking around I have solved my clunk. The lower shock bolt had loosened up, torqued to spec and my elusive noise is gone. As far as the snap ring gap it has some movement but seems to be within spec. (I have ordered a gauge to get a more specific number)
