Hello everyone ,
Recently got a 2004 LC and noticed the tilt and telescoping features on the steering wheel do not function . I have checked the fuses. Luckily when I bought it , it was already in a okay driving position . The steering wheel doesn’t auto retract either but I don’t think that would affect moving it with the switch on the side of the steering column. When sliding the button up , down , forward , back , there is absolutely no sound coming from the steering column which tells me there’s no power going to the tilt and telescoping motors .
A lot of these threads I see either have one or the other functioning , with atleast some electrical motor noises coming from the steering column . Neither the tilt or telescoping work on mine and I don’t hear any motion .

I have another thread open talking about how the interior lights don’t turn on when I open the doors , not sure if it’s related to this but felt I would mention it just in case.

Anyone had a similar experience and what was your fix ? Thank you

Same symptoms, ended up being the tilt/telescoping switch. Easy fix.

Having the same issue, no power no nothing did the new switch solve it?

1st check fuse in passenger kick panel, if good then a new switch worked for me. I had the same symptoms.

The tilt/telescope can be turned off in techstream, and some people do that since the motors are so fragile. You might want to check that first.

when i got my 2006 at about 120k miles, both of those motors were bad. Got them from amayama and installed in my driveway and still workin fine. I turned the auto tilt and telescope function off to not wear out the new ones and have also disabled the auto lock function hoping to replace fewer door lock actuator motors.

Just ordered the tilt switch and should be here by this weekend. Will get it installed and see if that fixes it. I heard you can only turn off the “Auto Tilt and Telescope” from techstream but not the actual tilting and telescoping feature itself

I don't know why you'd turn off the manual control feature... sounds kind of like that's where you are now with a (presumably) busted switch. Turning off "auto" just keeps it from tilting up and retracting when you turn off the car, which means it also doesn't need to go back into position when you start back up.

Aside: I wish I'd been able to turn off "auto" when I first got the truck and telescoping was still working. I think I've got a bad bushing or something somewhere because I was able to get it to telescope one last time by assisting (pulling on) the steering wheel, and it just decided to retract itself when I turned the car off. At this point I'm pretty sure my motor's just bad, but I haven't brought myself to buying a replacement part.

Both of my motors have failed. last I looked it was over $600, so not a high priority replacement for me. Maybe some day.

A little update
I received the switch from eBay today and it ended up being the incorrect one . It might’ve been 89235-24030 instead of 89235-60010. I still took the opportunity to just open up my steering column and take a look .
Both of my tilt and telescoping functions didn’t work. I checked fuses and they were all fine . I started pulling on the switch wires to make sure they weren’t pinched on anything. They were under a wire routing next to the switch and I tugged on it a little to loosen them up . It didn’t help. So out of boredom I was just mashing the switch up down left right in circles rapidly to see if maybe one of the directions was stuck or something. And luckily my telescoping started working again. Really funny . I’ve mashed the switch before and it wouldn’t do anything . I guess with a combination of tugging on its wire a little and moving it around in different directions , it unstuck something inside of the switch .
I took this opportunity while the steering column was still uncovered to manually tilt the steering wheel by loosening 2 hex head screws on the side of the tilt motor like I’ve seen in other threads . I’ve got it tilted to where I want it to be now and it’s able to telescope again .

Hi, @FlexLR - did you get your tilt / telescope steering feature working again? I am having the same issue, it just quit entirely on me one day. Neither the automatic or manual functions work, automatic entry/exit had been on.
None of the relevant fuses in the passenger kick panel are blown, and power is all good there. I reseated all three fuses, just to be sure.

The only thing I can think of is that my sunroof drains clogged up and leaked some, so the wiring might have gotten wet.

I was hunting on eBay, and found a box of a hundred of the tilt/telescope switch assembles for about the same price as a single one. So if anyone wants a spare, I’ll sell you one for $10 plus USPS shipping.

I haven’t had the time yet to take apart the steering column or get Techstream going to figure out if it’s the switch or the ECU, but it is annoying driving the truck with the wheel all the way up/forward.

Hello @knightofni ,
So I was only able to get my telescoping working but not my tilt. When I opened up my steering column , I unscrewed the tilt motor , there’s 2 screws in both sides of it . And turned it manually to set the tilt I wanted . I got my telescoping working but literally just spamming the switch in circles , up and down, back and forth , for a few minutes out of boredom and it ended up working again on the telescoping but not the tilt. Might’ve been a loose connector or a contact in the switch was just slightly improperly positioned and just messing with it got it working again . Good luck

FSM has a great troubleshooting guide for inoperable tilt telescope. I’m my case several of the pins on the tilt telescope ECU were corroded due to leaky windshield. A replacement fixed my problem.

Is there a procedure to manually retract the steering wheel? My tilt works, but my telescope does not. I had the shop disable the auto feature years ago, but wheel is too far out. Thanks for any input.

I think you would probably need to remove the motor, then move the steering wheel where you want it. Then, reinstall the defective motor. I would suggest you just replace the motor while your at it. Look on Partsooq or ebay. They are readily available. Up to you.

I found a workaround for anyone wanting to manually retract/extend the steering wheel (works with tilt as well I believe). If you rapidly move the switch in the direction you want the wheel to go (7x), then gently push/pull the wheel in that direction, it incrementally moves. If you do this enough times you can get it to the position you want. Worked for me. Mine was fully extended and now is in a better spot.

You're a legend mate. All I wanted was to raise the wheel a little, and your workaround WORKED
