tightened up my stick shift (94 4runner)

I was tired of the floppy stick shift lever in my runner, so I tore it apart to see if I could tighten it up. If you remove the tower, you will see a 16mm ball at the end of the shift lever. That ball goes into a metal collar that rides on top of the shift rails inside the transmission. The hole in that collar is just of 3/4 inch, so I threw a steel bushing in there that measures 5/8 by 3/4 by 1/2. The shifter is now tighter than a drum, and seems to be holding up nicely!
The bushing actually is loose inside the collar, but I think if it were any tighter it would probably bind.

Actually, I made that image by screen-capturing it from the EPC. FSMs don't show part numbers.

I took the rest of the pics myself. Too bad the nitwits at ORC broke all the links to the bigger photos.

Go get that bushing its there si you dont wear out the transmission by having metal on metal contact.
